KarJon’s honest feelings about their comeback, plus real experience with ‘black magic’

Comeback is real for Karina Bautista and Aljon Mendoza, aka KarJon to their avid shippers, as they reunite on-screen via ABS-CBN Entertainment Made For YouTube offering “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-videos/karjon-reunites-in-abs-cbns-newest-halloween-offering-hex-boyfriend-20872">Hex Boyfriend</a>.” Catch up with the loveteam you dearly missed in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.Aljon and Karina’s lives have been big juggling acts these days, as they balance work and studies. And they’re not going to sugarcoat it, instead, they&#x27;re admitting to the challenges and pressure they feel.“Kung hindi ka talaga pursigidong mag-aral at pagsabayin, kapag wala ka talagang motivation, hindi mo talaga siya matutuloy. Kasi magsa-suffer din talaga ‘yung personal time mo. Siyempre, minsan, kahit ‘yung rest mo hindi pwede kasi kailangan i-give mo ‘yung best mo,” shared Karina, adding that working students must learn to take extra care of themselves.They’re not complaining, though. However difficult, they’re happy with what they’re doing, and even happier to give their fans a special treat this Halloween season. They’re back together in “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-videos/karjon-reunites-in-abs-cbns-newest-halloween-offering-hex-boyfriend-20872">Hex Boyfriend</a>,” which premiered yesterday, October 20.“Hex Boyfriend” tells the story of a mysterious girl, Raya (Karina), who hails from a clan of mangkukulam (witches); and Chris (Aljon), the persevering son of an albularyo or faith healer. Their two different worlds will collide, sparking off hextraordinary kilig and magic, but not without all the fun conflict that will charm viewers from start to finish.As excited as their fervid supporters, Karina and Aljon were thrilled to be sharing another project after a year since “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/viralscandal">Viral Scandal</a>.” As he puts it, “Nakikita ko kasi na may mga supporters pa rin kaming naghihintay sa comeback namin. So, ito ‘yung perfect time na magbigay ng small treat para sa kanila.”Besides, “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-news/5-spooktacular-hexciting-reasons-to-not-miss-hex-boyfriend-20861">Hex Boyfriend</a>” is a refreshing story to them, quite different from all their past roles. And as young adults with thirst for growth and challenge, they had no reason to say ‘no’ to this.Asked if they needed to revive their chemistry, KarJon says their connection remained real despite going on different career paths in the past year. The chemistry will always be alive, as it is built on a strong foundation of friendship.Besides, they recently did a lifestyle show with their co-Rise artists, titled “Rise and Go,” which was sort of a team building activity. “Nagkaroon talaga kami ng chance para mag-usap, magkulitan, mag-catch up,” revealed Karina. “Kasi, siyempre, busy din kami sa individual lives namin, at ang hirap magkwento talaga. Pero nung time na &#x27;yun, nabigyan kami ng chance talaga na mag-usap.”What a difference a year can make. The loveteam noticed some improvement in themselves and each other in terms of acting. She thought they’re more able to inject deeper realism and emotions into their scenes, considering that they’re maturing as well. He added that they’re now more comfortable in front of the cameras.Asked if they help each other on set, they said they’re pretty chill, meaning they let themselves do their own thing but make sure to guide each other when needed.“Ano naman kasi kami, kung kailangan ng tulong ng isa, lalapit naman, eh. Hindi naman ifo-force na, ‘Ganito gawin mo,’ kasi disrespect ‘yun, eh,” he imparted. She further explained, “At saka kanya-kanyang style nman ‘yan. Ako, [iniisip ko], baka ‘pag tinulungan ko ‘tong tao na ‘to, baka mas lalo siyang hindi maka-focus kasi iba ‘yung ginagamit niyang way of acting.”On the lessons they picked up from Raya and Chris’ story, they imparted that we shouldn’t be quick to judge, especially in this age of social media where fake news is rampant. “Importante ‘yung respetuhin mo bilang tao. Hindi ‘yung porke’t narinig mo, paniniwalaan mo na,” he stated.As for Karina, she emphasized the value of empathy. Indeed, maturity comes with a deeper understanding of other people’s needs and feelings. She’s learned that there must be a valid reason why a person behaves a certain way, and in the process of showing empathy, she also becomes a better individual. “Mas nagiging kinder na ako as a person kasi mas naiintindihan ko na.”In keeping with the theme of “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-news/meet-the-stars-who-will-add-charm-and-magic-to-karjons-comeback-project-hex-boyfriend-20820">Hex Boyfriend</a>,” the tandem was asked if they believe in black magic. Karina related that she had heard stories of mangkukulam in their province. Her family also follows certain pamahiin and asks for the help of abularyo. Therefore, yes, she believes in such folklore.Aljon has fascinating stories to tell, too, “May kakilala akong mangkukulam. Grupo pa nga sila, eh, at talagang nakakakita sila ng mga elements.” He says this group of people that has supernatural connections can read one’s palm, “At pag sinabi mo itong detail at info mo, malalaman nila ‘yung deepest, darkest secret mo.”Karina reacted, “What?! Friends mo ‘to?” to which Aljon replied, “Hindi naman sila ‘yung nakakatakot.
