Maricel Soriano vs JM de Guzman: Who won in their fun billiards game?

Before we can see them share the screen as mother and son in the upcoming Kapamilya series Linlang, veteran actress Maricel Soriano bonded with her co-star JM de Guzman over billiards and pizza, as seen in the latest vlog uploaded on her YouTube channel.

We may know her as a versatile actress and occasional host and dancer, but not a lot of people are arguably aware that she can also play billiards. When asked by JM how did she learn, she disclosed that her interest to the sport motivated her to train, yet she’s not still good at it. On the other hand, he started playing when he was still in high school, as he and his barkada usually dropped by a bilyaran after school.

In the end, it was JM who won the game as he was able to shoot more balls than Maricel. After their game, the two had a lighthearted and insightful conversation over pizza and cola, wherein she gave her nuggets of advices about career, acting, and life.

With regards to acting, the Diamond Star imparted that she actually used to have the same dilemma like him when it comes to letting go of a character after the director exclaims “cut!”

“Kung tutuusin, hindi naman talaga natatapatan ng pera. Mahirap. Pero ang masaya rito, masaya ka sa ginagawa mong craft, ‘di ba? ‘Yon ang importante. Saka always use your heart because you’ll never go wrong kapag naramdaman na ng puso mo. Kasi kapag naramdaman na ng puso ko, nagpanting na ang tenga ko, ‘yon na ang moment na kailangan ko,” she told him.

Maricel also gave him tips when it comes to internalizing his character, which, according to her, involves knowing where your character is coming from and going to and intensively studying the script. She also commended him for being punctual.

As both of them started in showbiz at six years old, she asked him if he’s been enjoying his journey, to which he retorted that he indeed is. He stated, “Breadwinner po ako e. At an early age po, na-enjoy ko siya na nakakatulong ako kahit papaano sa pamilya, tapos gusto ko pa ‘yong ginagawa ko.” Maricel related that she actually had the same motivation as he is at the onset of her showbiz journey.

JM then opened up about how he considers the rejections he received as the “highlights” of his career as those fuel him to do better and learn more. For his personal life, he divulged that he yearns to have a family of his own and wishes to venture in showbiz and continue with vlogging, too.

She also quizzed him about the difference between acting in theater and on-screen, to which he enumerated how tiring the rehearsals are in the former that usually go on for a month, how there’s no “take twos” and how you must memorize the entire script and the blockings.
