Paulo, Janine reveal dreams for the country, ultimate food, and more as they answer “What If” questions

Paulo Avelino and Janine Gutierrez’s latest film “Ngayon Kaya” follows the story of college kids Harold and AM, who meet again years after graduation, hounded by “what ifs.”In keeping the movie’s theme, Kapamilya Chat asked PauNine their thoughts on specific what-if scenarios. We begin with what if choosing love life over career, which Paulo believes is completely acceptable. “Kung gusto mo na talagang mag-settle down, wala akong nakikitang mali doon. Minsan talaga hindi natin alam kung ano’ng gusto natin unless nand’on na tayo sa sitwasyon,” explained he. The question made Paulo dream of being a happy househusband in the future. Janine said she’s probably settled down by now had she chosen love life over career in the past.If they weren’t actors today, Paulo is most likely living the chill life just hanging around and playing mobile games; while Janine would’ve pursued a career at an embassy, picking up from her OJT.If they could live for 200 years, Paulo will train to be the CEO of a company that changes the world’s landscape akin to Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Meanwhile, the first thing that popped up in Janine’s mind is, “Siguro yayaman ako.”For Paulo, it’d be boring if money can buy happiness, although he admits other people treat money that way, “Kanya-kanya naman pero ayokong nabibili ng pera ang happiness.”For Janine, happiness also means survival or making ends meet. Therefore, earning money is also important, “Nakakahinga tayo nang maluwag pag alam nating may kakainin tayo. Nakakatulong talaga ‘pag meron tayong pang-gastos. Pero at the end of the day, feeling ko mas mahalaga ‘yung kalusugan at kasama natin ‘yung mga mahal natin sa buhay. Pero kailangan mo pa rin ng pagkain, so sana talaga lahat tayo ay makaluwag-luwag.”If they become president, Paulo said he would most likely die after a week because there is a lot to change. Janine will focus on improving the country’s agriculture and healthcare.If they have the power to change history, Paulo will eliminate wars between nations. As for Janine, she’s curious to find out what the Philippines could’ve been like if not colonized by the Spaniards.If they have one-liners that the whole world can hear, Janine will proudly say, “Ako ay Pilipino.” Her heart is full of desire for Filipino movies and arts to be recognized globally. For Paulo, it would be “may nagmamahal sa’yo.”If they have three wishes from a genie, they would ask for good health and a better life for Filipinos. Janine would also wish people get to watch their film “Ngayon Kaya” in cinemas.If they get the chance to be reborn, Paulo will still choose to be born in the Philippines, “Masyado kong mahal itong bayan natin para ipagpalit ko sa ibang nationality o kaginhawaan sa ibang bansa. I’m very hopeful about the Philippines. Hindi ko kayang iwan ‘yung bansa natin para scapegoat lang para guminhawa ‘yung buhay ko kahit alam kong maraming naghihirap at nangangailangan ng tulong,” Paulo’s meaty answer.Janine, on the other hand, will choose to be born in Finland, saying she hopes the Philippines manages to be as progressive.If they could only eat one kind of food for the rest of their lives, Janine will go for bacon and Paulo will choose rice.Check out Paulo and Janine’s answers in the video!
