Rachel Alejandro gained the name of “Queen of Heartbreak Songs” because of how heart-wrenching her classic songs have become to thousands of people since the 90s. With her original songs still deemed as OPM hits today, Rachel continues to indulge her fans by singing it in live concerts.After all, one of Rachel’s most unforgettable performances was in a live concert, as revealed in this Kapamilya Chat. She could still remember when she performed at Gary Valenciano’s concert at the age of 16. It was a moment she would never forget because when she sang her song “Kay Tagal” on stage, it felt so surreal realizing that the whole audience knew her song from start to finish as they sang along with her.As pandemic restrictions are easing, Rachel is treating her fans in the Philippines with her first live concert in the country after two and a half years on July 30. She has been on tour in the US for some time already, but want to let kababayans in her home country experience the same warm nostalgia and joy her concertgoers abroad had with her music.To recall some of her most iconic hits before her upcoming concert, Rachel played “Guess the Acronym” in this Kapamilya Chat after talking about what viewers can expect from her concert. In the game, she was given acronyms pertaining to one of her songs and was tasked to figure it out before singing a short verse.The first one was “MRK.” It took a while for her to get it, but she quickly realized that it was “Mr. Kupido,” a wishful song to cupid to make one’s crush love them back.The next acronym “NNG” proved to be a challenge as Rachel wasn’t able to get it at all. Apparently, it stood for her song “Nananaginip ng Gising,” which Rachel confessed she couldn’t even sing the song anymore since it’s been so long since that was released. “Sorry ah, early 90s pa ‘yan,” she said with a laugh.Next acronym stood for her song “Don’t Know What To Do,” which she amazingly got in a flash.Rachel got especially excited when the next one, “APIKI,” was given. She quickly responded “Ang Pag-Ibig Kong Ito” and sang the iconic chorus. Viewers could definitely relate to the throwback feels it gave as she sang.Rachel also sang with gusto after the final acronym “PN” was revealed to be “Paalam Na.” She even hit the high notes with so much emotion because for her, “Paalam Na” is such a relatable one for a lot of people. It’s certainly a timeless ‘hugot’ song according to Rachel, “Kanya-kanya tayong story of saying goodbye to someone you love.” She further explained that the song reminds people to use their brain instead of their heart sometimes in order to avoid getting hurt from a relationship that will never work out. “Maybe there is someone else out there that is more suited or meant to be,” she said is the lesson that many can get from the lyrics.These songs and the meaning people put in them are what keep Rachel going as an artist. She said, “People of my generation, hindi na nila makakalimutan na naging parte ng buhay nila ‘yong mga awitin na ‘to, whether it be ‘Paalam Na,’ ‘Nakapagtataka,’ and all of those songs. It becomes part of people’s lives.”She shared a touching story in one of her US shows. A man went up to her after the show and asked her to sign a photo of his wife. The man explained that it was their 20th anniversary and Rachel’s song “Kay Tagal” is special in their marriage. When they were engaged, it was the song his wife sang to him so he’ll never ever forget it.
