Even the happiest relationships can sometimes feel like they’ve stepped straight out of a romantic comedy’s most awkward scene or a drama’s most gut-wrenching moment. The truth is actors who bring those emotions to life onscreen are also navigating the complexities of their own relationships in real life. Case in point: sweethearts RK Bagatsing and Jane Oineza.

It’s admirable how they feel at home with each other and remain strong as a couple, even though, in real life, they also go through typical relationship dilemmas like fights and jealousy. This is exactly why their relationship advice and insights are worth paying attention to. It seems like RKane has already mastered the art of staying together, and we’re fortunate enough to have them share their tips, advice, and thoughts on what it takes to make romance work in this edition of “The How Tos of Love.”

When it comes to apologizing after a fight, Jane emphasized that you shouldn’t just say sorry for the sake of it. “It’s really figuring out muna or discussing muna sa isa’t isa para alam mo kung bakit ka nagso-sorry,” she thought. Her boyfriend, who was affectionately watching her as she spoke, chimed in, “Be open to each other’s side para ‘pag papunta na doon sa conclusion, kung ano’ng nangyari, that’s the time to say sorry.”

RK also shared a helpful tip on how to structure a good apology: “Sorry, I did this… and I will be better next time.”

As a couple, one of the things they love most is surprising each other, and recently, they each pulled off perfectly timed surprises while filming their movie "Love Child." They both agree that these gestures were flawlessly executed. But how do they manage to surprise each other so smoothly, especially on special occasions?

According to RKane, it all starts with understanding what truly makes your partner happy. It’s about knowing what excites them and how to execute the perfect plan by being aware of their tendencies, schedule, and how to keep them from suspecting anything. This attention to detail is what makes their surprises so spot-on every time.

However, they stressed that showing love doesn't always mean extravagant gifts. Everyone has their own love language, so it's crucial to understand and communicate in your partner's preferred way. Jane, for instance, strikes us as the sweet girlfriend who values the little things in a relationship. She believes that just being present for your partner speaks volumes of affection. RK shares a similar sentiment, adding that even something as simple as holding your partner’s hand while driving or offering him/her an umbrella when it rains might seem like small gestures, but they are, in fact, powerful expressions of love.

Trust is the cornerstone of any relationship, and for RK and Jane, it starts with being authentic. “It shows that you trust someone when you can be yourself with someone,” said Jane. RK also emphasized that trust is built when you stay true to your word, “’Pag may sinabi ka, gagawin mo para ‘yung taong ‘yun, eh, alam na mahalaga sa’yo ang trust.” Ultimately, it all comes down to being open and maintaining clear communication.

When it comes to admitting jealousy, RKane confessed that they often keep those feelings to themselves rather than directly telling each other. However, they both recognize the importance of being open with your partner about it. "’Yung selos naman, as long as hindi mo siya kinakahon sa selos na ‘yun, okay lang magselos,” Jane shared, and RK was quick to agree. They call this “selos na cute,” but anything beyond that should be communicated properly without letting those feelings take over.
