TikTok nation and more netizens have been bitten by the “Diwata” fever five months since it was released for Miss Universe Philippines 2021 swimsuit competition. That’s why Sam Concepcion, the voice behind this newest internet anthem, is admittedly surprised, yet grateful.“Diwata” is now a trending challenge on TikTok, included in Spotify’s Top 10 songs, and has racked up 3 million views on YouTube. “Medyo may delayed reaction ang pag-blow up ng song. So medyo nagulat kaming lahat, everyone in the team including myself,” said Sam in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.He added, “You release a song, hindi mo alam kung paano siya tatanggapin. Hindi mo rin alam kung maghi-hit. So minsan it’s our job to just release songs and once in every couple of songs, meron talagang magva-viral na ganyan.” He takes pride in the organic build-up of the song’s popularity, which TikTok users must also be credited for. That’s why Sam thanks those who joined the challenge.He mentioned that “Diwata” was specifically made for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 swimsuit round, “We really had the competition in mind,” hence, the vibe that celebrates “the beauty of a Filipina.”Besides the song itself, netizens also loved Sam’s performance during the coronation night wherein the candidates sashayed across the stage while he serenaded them. When told that netizens commend his suave moves, Sam revealed he didn’t really get to rehearse with the ladies. “Siguro I was just at the right place at the right time,” he said. “I love the song as much as you do,” he added, thanking his fans, listeners, and TikTok users again.Apart from “Diwata,” Sam is known for the hit single “Dati,” which is a duet with Tippy dos Santos released in 2013. Live viewers asked him for a sample but Sam promised himself not to sing it without a partner. He said he might perform it with Gigi de Lana at their “Domination” concert coming this month in different parts of the Middle East.Speaking of duets, Sam still doesn’t let go of his wish to record a song with KZ Tandingan, one of his special guests during his first-ever concert back in 2011. He also asked fans to give him ideas on who to collaborate next.
