Sylvia Sanchez takes pride on “Misis Piggy” castmates Ria Atayde, Iana Bernardez, Elijah Canlas

After astounding us with her compelling performance as the mentally-challenged Barang in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/hkm2021" target="_blank">Huwag Kang Mangamba</a> last year, Sylvia Sanchez is back to once again rend our hearts as she takes on another mom role in the upcoming <a href="https://app.iwanttfc.com/Mkr3OdLk6ab" target="_blank">iWantTFC</a> original series “Misis Piggy.”And weeks prior to its anticipated premiere on April 25, she talked about her “Misis Piggy” stint on Hotspot Live.In “Misis Piggy,” the veteran actress will portray Marivic, a proud yet struggling single mom of three children, who she raised by running a meat stall. She may have played numerous maternal roles throughout her showbiz career, yet she disclosed that this one’s different since it will also show how women can also have their own share of faults in a failed marriage, as well as how being tough and righteous could also put any relationship in peril.Even though this is already her umpteenth time in taking on this kind of character, she told DJ Jhai Ho that she was still able to feel a unique emotion while doing it, especially during her scenes with co-star and real-life daughter Ria Atayde. So, talagang iba…Thankful ako do’n sobra,” she conveyed.While it was easy for her and Ria to establish their chemistry on-screen, Sylvia was also able to get along well with her two other children on the show – Elijah Canlas and Iana Bernardez – to whom she is very proud of because of how excellent they are. With how they’re able to pour their emotions out of their hearts and to move spectators with their innate dramatic prowess, she tagged them “natural actors”. Thus, she was pressured to give her all in this project, too.As we expect to witness a lot of heavy and tear-jerking scenes, she revealed that the set of “Misis Piggy” was actually a fun one as they all eat a lot together and had their kulitan and bonding moments as well, along with her on-screen husband Ricky Davao. But when the reels were already rolling, she’s amazed by how they easily shift to serious mode and continue with work.When it comes to her takeaways, she imparted that it made her realize the difference between being tough and being strong. While mothers like her need to be strong for the sake of their children, it should not be confused nor equated with being tough as it could definitely ruin relationships.“Kasi ‘di ba minsan sobra-sobra, Jhai, ang pride natin? Akala natin dahil tayo ‘yong nasaktan, nagiging sobra tayong matigas. But [aside] sa pagiging matigas, kailangan din nating tanggapin ang sitwasyon at kailangan nating magpakumbaba at tanggapin kung anong nangyari para maging okay ang sitwasyon, maging okay ang relasyon. Naniniwala ako na sa mga naghihiwalay minsan, nagiging dahilan ang pagiging matigas,” Sylvia conveyed.The esteemed actress further shared that she intensively studied the script upon receiving it, as she wanted to get a full grasp of the narrative and figure out the right emotions she had to exude. This allowed her as well to give a different spin to another mom role, which she’s been doing for more than a decade now.She also divulged being careful when it comes to picking her projects and playing mom roles in order for her to still offer something fresh to the viewers despite already doing it consecutively in her previous projects.As she mentioned discreetly critiquing the performance of her daughter Ria in this series, DJ Jhai Ho dared her to take on the “Rate and React Challenge”, wherein she had to react on the clips of Ria’s on-screen acting and rate each from 1 to 5, with 5 being “excellent.”When asked if they talk about their acting performances at home, Sylvia shared that they actually do not watch each other’s projects entirely, yet Ria would message her each time they would have a remarkable scene or they’re not confident with their acting in a certain episode.Among her daughter’s performances that she rated were as Pinky Sebastian in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/halik" target="_blank">Halik</a> (2018), Lian in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/ipaglabanmo" target="_blank">Ipaglaban Mo</a> “Saleslady” (2020), Hershey Hilado in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/maalaalamokaya" target="_blank">Maalaala Mo Kaya</a> “Damit” (2017), and Atty. Laura Dizon in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/viralscandal" target="_blank">Viral Scandal</a>. She refused to give her the perfect score of 5 because she wants to give her a room to further improve herself as an actor and study more.With regards to Ria’s stint in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/viralscandal" target="_blank">Viral Scandal</a>, the veteran actress revealed that Ria actually talked to her lawyer friends about the jargons and mannerisms they use or do in order to portray her character well.In Ria’s seven years in the industry, Sylvia firmly believes that she’s going to be a greater actress than her, recalling how she used to be when she was just starting out in showbiz three decades ago. She only has to get the right timing and right project in order to unleash her full potential and be known as a versatile actress. She also compared Ria’s performance from her first-ever acting project Ningning in 2015, in which they had the chance to work together for the first time, to how she is now at present, pointing out how much she has improved.Sylvia also imparted advising Ria to strengthen their foundation in the industry by showing off their best in everything they do, building rapport to everyone they’re going to work with, and being professional at all times.
