Groundbreaking drama series “Unbreak My Heart” serves viewers with enthralling scenes, thanks to the overall combination of brilliant acting performances, cinematography, narrative, and all. But what goes into crafting these sequences can also be entertaining to learn about!

In this video, lead stars Jodi Sta Maria, Joshua Garcia, Gabbi Garcia, and Richard Yap shared what went behind the scenes of some key moments in the teleserye.

A big chunk of the story was shot around Europe. Filming in a foreign country is full of unique challenges, especially when executing guerrilla shots or filming secretly. Joshua and Gabbi revealed that they would change clothes in public restrooms. “Minsan nagbibihis ako sa fastfood or cafe,” she recalled, to which he jestingly added, “Nagulat ako kung saan-saan siya naghuhubad.” Gabbi shyly clarified, “Uy! Hindi naman hubad. Naka-warmers ako. Baka isipin nila...”

“Since on the go, ito ‘yung time na may nadaanan kaming gelato place tapos nanlibre ako sa mga tao,” Gabbi explained the photo shown on the screen.

Not only did they work with limited crew and fight homesickness, but they also struggled with adapting to Europe’s freezing weather. On Joshua and Jodi’s romantic scenes filmed at Mt. Pilatus in Switzerland, he spilled that they omitted the uphill scene in the script due to the intense cold. “Ang sakit sa tenga,” Joshua gushed, to which Jodi added, “Sobrang lamig! Parang zombie ka na. Hindi ka na makakilos dahil sa sobrang lamig.”

Richard had the same experience with Jodi at Lake Garda in Italy. “Nagla-lines ka pero nanginginig ‘yung buong katawan mo. Naninigas ‘yung panga mo parang hindi mo nafe-feel ‘yung sinasabi mo.” Jodi shared further, “Tapos ang hangin-hangin pa. Walang araw. May overcast niyan.”

Joshua praised the tandem’s performance: “Ang galing nila diyan, eh.” Gabbi reacted, “Awang-awa ako sa’yo diyan [Jodi],” and then faced Richard, “Ang sama mo.”

Jodi and Richard were also photographed sharing an intimate ‘kwentuhan’, of which the former articulated, “Hindi kasama sa eksena ‘yan. ‘Pag naglalakad kami, lagi kami nagchichikahan.”

Next, they looked back on their emotional airport encounter, which was one of the earliest scenes they filmed. Jodi divulged that it took them two days to finish one sequence because of its intricate elements. Joshua tells her, “Nabalitaan ko buong araw ka daw umiiyak.”

She replied, “Well, oo, kasi ang daming nangyari. Ang daming shots tapos maraming anggulo, may salo pa. Isang continuous lang ‘yan na eksena pero kailangan lagi mong binabantayan ‘yung emotional continuity hanggang sa makalabas ka. So, parang naka-hold ka lang the whole time.”

In such moments, she would hold Richard’s hand and, in an instant, feel the emotions flow through her all over again.

Despite the challenges, the team enjoyed work as they had the privilege to explore the majestic beauty of Europe. Fun-loving Joshua and Gabbi loved milling around the cities, and one time tried out a restaurant that they didn’t know was already chosen as their location for a scene.

Certainly, as beautiful as Europe are the memories collected by the “Unbreak My Heart” cast members.
