Nine years since they worked together in the 2013 Star Cinema comedy flick “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy” It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda had the chance to be reunited with his on-screen mother Maricel Soriano in his latest vlog, wherein they talked about her showbiz journey and she accepted his on-the-spot “Unkabogable Acting Challenge.”

The Unkabogable Star commenced their lighthearted chikahan by confessing that he used to dream of taking part in an episode of the classic film series “Shake, Rattle, & Roll” or being slapped by the Diamond Star as these are the experiences that would make him say “I’ve arrived” in the fulfillment of his career. And he was able to achieve the latter through the said 2013 film, yet ended up with ‘bloody gums’ because of how intense her slap was in one of their scenes.

They went on to talk about how she has remained youthful and radiantly glowing even though she’s already 57 years old! She’s been in the industry for 51 years, starting out as a child star when she was only six years old.

Since she has been an actress for a long time, the Everybody Sing host asked her why she chose to stay in the business, to which she simply retorted, “Why not?” Then she added that she truly enjoys being in the entertainment scene and would surely stay and create films as long as the people still want to see her. Besides, she sometimes finds the escape she’s yearning for in doing what she loves.

Maricel then had a difficult time giving an answer when asked by Vice which of the roles she did through the years is the best for her. She eventually mentioned “Ikaw Palang Ang Minahal”, which she starred opposite Richard Gomez. They went on to discuss her performances in that movie and in the 1994 classic flick “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” she starred alongside Zsa Zsa Padilla.

Being a brilliant actress that she is, Vice dared him to take on the “Unkabogable Acting Challenge”, wherein she had to “Maricel-fy”, or demonstrate her own rendition on the roles portrayed by her contemporaries.

First off was the 1982 Ishmael Bernal film “Himala”, wherein she delivered the iconic lines of Superstar Nora Aunor’scharacter Elsa. Next was the Vilma Santos movie “Anak” in 2000, wherein she had to recreate the scene when the character of the Star for All Seasons heavily scolded her rebellious daughter played by Claudine Barretto.

They then talked about Maricel’s friendship with Roderick Paulate on-and-off-cam, as well as how overjoyed Vice was when he finally got to work with her in “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” through which he received a “Best Actor” trophy from the PMPC Star Awards. And in order to gauge her versatility as an actress, he then challenged her to do one of the scenes of his character Girly.

Those who have been following the career journey of the Diamond Star know that she had formed a wonderful bond with the late Comedy King Dolphy after working with him in a few projects. Thus, Vice had her do his popular “Banayad Whiskey” clip from his 1995 film “Father En Son”, which she amazingly nailed.
