Great fashion taste runs in the Gutierrez family!

Janine Gutierrez and Diego Gutierrez are proof of how fun it is to have a sibling to go shopping with, swap fashion tips, and give each other honest OOTD critiques. This was evident in a recent vlog challenge where they had just 15 minutes to style each other in three different looks. They hit up the flagship store of a popular local brand, each with a budget of ₱5,000.

The categories they picked for their ensembles were road trip, romantic date night, and cold weather, which was a fun twist, given the challenge of finding pieces that work for the warm climate in the Philippines but still fit the third concept perfectly.

Janine, who we’ll see in the upcoming series “Lavender Fields,” usually has a pretty good idea of her brother’s style since he often sends her his OOTDs for feedback. But with the clock ticking in this challenge, she was initially confused and stressed. She eventually spotted a cool graphic tee with a road trip motif, which gave her the perfect base for Diego’s look. From there, she searched through the racks to find shorts or pants that would complement the shirt, although she had a tough time deciding on the right bottoms, especially since she had to consider Diego’s height.

When their sister Max showed up, Janine wasn’t sure if it would make her feel more relaxed or even more pressured.

As for Diego, he immediately thought about finding beach-themed outfits for the road trip look. He had to balance picking clothes that Janine would normally wear with trying out something new and fresh for her to rock.

With just one minute left, Diego was pretty wiped out from running around the store, so he spent the last bit of time grabbing small extras like pocket wet wipes for his sister.

Once they were both done shopping, it was time to see if they stayed within budget. Janine went a bit over at ₱5,288, so she had to drop one product from her basket to balance things out.

Diego had a game plan to pick out the best items first and then ditch the less impressive ones. But he found so many great pieces that he struggled to decide what to cut. We’re not surprised he went over budget at ₱5,688, so he had to cover the extra cost himself. His excuse? “Mas mahal kasi ang damit ng babae.” Hmm, does he have a point?

Now it’s time to try on the outfits they’d picked for each other, starting with the “Roadtrip” theme. The looks were super laidback: Diego wore a graphic ‘sunshine’ shirt with shorts, while Janine rocked a navy blue tank top and shorts. They were thrilled with how their styling turned out, finding it cute and even better that their outfits seemed to be ‘matchy-matchy.’

For the “Date Night” look, Diego picked out a stunning evening dress for Janine, which she absolutely loved and said was totally her style. Diego’s outfit was a sharp long-sleeved polo paired with black pants.

For the “Cold Weather” ensemble, Janine chose a cozy green sweater and pants for Diego, while he dressed her in a crisp white tank top and white pants, topped off with a denim jacket.

Janine and Diego were absolutely thrilled with how the challenge turned out. They nailed each other’s style preferences, and knowing each other’s tastes definitely helped them speak the same fashion language. It made the whole process so much easier and more fun!
