Just when we thought that this week’s (September 25 to September 29) episodes of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo are going to be filled with good vibes, kilig, and touching moments, we were indeed aghast to see the horrible scene in the last episode.

After not having that much exposure previously, many are surely delighted to see a lot of “Santino moments” in recent weeks. Just like this week, which commenced with Santino’s (Ronwaldo Martin) first day of working as a janitor at the boxing gym co-owned by Darryl (Levi Ignacio), a former professional boxer-turned-coach, and with Lawrence (Paolo Gumabao), the son of his former manager.

Aside from instantly scoring a job, Santino is also given the opportunity to take a step closer on fulfilling his dream of becoming a boxing champion by beginning his training right after he’s done with his duties. He was able to impress Coach Darryl with his moves and stance and had a one-on-one conversation with him, wherein Darryl warned him about the challenges and perils of being a boxer, as well as advised him on the things he must do in order to attain it. In spite of these, Santino is absolutely willing to take the risks to make his aspirations for himself and his family to come true. Before he went home, Santino received his first-ever salary from Darryl, who also advised him to treat his family.

And Santino did, as he brought home one whole roasted chicken for dinner, much to delight of his family. Among them, it’s Marites (Cherry Pie Picache), who’s the definitely the proudest as her beloved bunso is finally doing something meaningful and prolific for himself and his future.

While they were having dinner, Noy (Lou Veloso) arrived home in a sulky mood. He vexedly related to them about what happened to his day, including his unexpected encounter with Beng (a.k.a. Olga, Irma Adlawan), who shooed him away as if she doesn’t know him when he tried to approach her in a café. Bewildered, Marites attempted to call her, but Olga refused to answer.

At the mansion, Olga and Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) just had a meeting with the Red Phoenix group for their new business transaction. It can be recalled that the previous one got foiled after Tanggol (Coco Martin) and his friends took their money away in an attempt to help Mokang (Lovi Poe) with their family’s financial woes.

It can be recalled that the previous one got foiled after Tanggol (Coco Martin) and his friends took their money away in an attempt to help Mokang (Lovi Poe) with their family’s financial woes.
A few hours before the meeting, Don Julio asked Mokang’s parents Marsing (Pen Medina) and Nita (Susan Africa) to stay inside their room until they’re told because their business partners want their transaction to be fully confidential. However, instead of heeding to his request, Marsing gave in to his curiosity and didn’t just try to eavesdrop, but also get a glimpse of what was happening inside Don Julio’s office. Olga caught them, which interrupted the transaction, and immediately confronted them and drove them away.

Don Julio castigated the couple afterwards for disobeying him and went on to call his son Ramon (a.k.a. Alberto, Christopher de Leon), who was then still enjoying his honeymoon escapade with Monique (a.k.a. Mokang). He was prompted by Olga for it to be done as soon as possible if he doesn’t want them to find out the truth about their business, as well as Ramon’s identity. Don Julio suggested to find another place for his wife’s parents, which Ramon objected since there’s a possibility that Monique will go with them.

Their conversation got disrupted when he saw Monique being harassed by two men while she was just walking by the shore alone. He quickly came into her rescue and threw strong punches at the two perverts that got both unconscious.

Meanwhile in Quiapo, Roda (Joel Lamangan) faces his grimmest nightmare after losing everything that he has to the conflagration that engulfed all his money and his properties. It happened when the Batang Tondo gang once again broke in his house to try robbing all his money that he withdrew from the bank earlier that day.

But they were only able to take a few bundles of cash as the flame from the candle that one of them was holding instantly spread on his bed where all his money was scattered. The hooligans were able to escape before his house got completely consumed by fire. Edwin (Ping Medina) and Kidlat (Smugglaz) were also able to patch things up between them and the Batang Quiapo gang is complete again.

Crestfallen, Roda tried to seek the help of his kinakapatid Col. Manuel Suarez (King Gutierrez), only to be berated and sent away by him because of his incessant yapping that completely annoyed him. Col. Suarez told Roda that although he’s willing to help, his case isn’t their priority right now since they have more important and more pressing problems that they need to address.

And one of those is the group of Primo (Lito Lapid), Berting (Joey Marquez), Lucio (Ronnie Lazaro), and Turko (Benzon Dalina), who have managed to flee when the henchmen of Augustus (Julio Diaz) ambushed them while being transported.

Lucio took his friends at the place of his former live-in partner Yolly (Deborah Sun) to take refuge. Apparently, they didn’t have an amicable separation after he sold his house, so she almost drove them away if not for Primo who begged for her to let them stay. While they are in hiding, Primo wants them to start planning already for their next move on saving the love of his life Amanda (Lorna Tolentino), who, unbeknown to him, was fighting for her life after being fatally shot by Augustus.

Just when Augustus’ minions, spearheaded by Mulong (Val Iglesias) were already in a celebratory mood upon getting home, they were welcome by their infuriated boss, who vehemently fired at some of his goons. Mulong apologized and suggested to Augustus for them to set a trap for Primo, so that he’ll be the one to come to them instead.

As they went on their mission that night, Bong (Vandolph) reminded their cellmates regarding his order of having Tanggol and his friends killed while they were outside the jail. Unaware of the horrendous thing that’s about to happen to them, the Batang Quiapos were having an amusing and moving conversation while preparing their dinner. They reminisced about the life they used to have before being incarcerated, as well as the luxurious life that Mokang is probably enjoying at the moment. Each of them also shared their realizations after everything that happened, as well as the ambitions that they wish to pursue once they get paroled.

While inside the loo, Tanggol caught the Batang Divisoria gang marching out of jail. He learned from Ben (Mark Lapid) that Chief Espinas (Jaclyn Jose) is among the people behind this illegal business of sending convicts outside to accomplish the tasks from people who hired them to kill their nemeses.

Rigor (John Estrada) stayed at Lena’s (Mercedes Cabral) place for the night to accompany her after experiencing nausea while she’s on duty. Unbeknown to them, they were caught passionately kissing by their friend Mando (Allan Paule), confirming his suspicion that they have an illicit affair.

And the fruit indeed doesn’t fall far from the tree as his son David was also doing the same mistake with the girl that she met in the club. They did a steamy act inside the posh car given by Don Julio and were – unfortunately – caught by his father’s colleagues Sgt. Mario Samonte (Jorel Ramirez) and Lt. Luis Jacobe (Victor Silayan).

As the two police officers threatened to report it to Col. Suarez, who would be the one to relay it to Rigor, then to file charges against him and his chick, David pleaded to them not to. He bribed them with a sum of money, which they accepted and warned him not to do it again. Out of frustration, he told the girl to alight the car then fled off.

Bong’s minions then finally carried out their plan of murdering the Batang Quiapo group. However, it was only the friends of Tanggol who got embroiled in the bloody riot as he was not with them when it happened. Since the gates were locked, Tanggol was left with no choice but to watch them while being ruthlessly beaten up and stabbed.

FPJ’s Batang Quiapo took off in a good and kilig note in previous week as we witnessed the potential romance between the characters of Ronwaldo Martin and Dexie Diaz, whose chemistry is also promising. Lovi Poe and Christopher de Leon also continued to excite us with Ramon and Mokang’s steamy scenes while on their romantic honeymoon.

While the said pairs brought kilig, the tandem of John Estrada and Mercedes Cabral irked viewers because of their illicit affair. Well, we’re more annoyed towards his character Rigor because of how he would act morally upright at home and at work, yet he also commits dishonorable deeds. So, thankfully, they were caught in the act by Allan Paule’s Mando and our eyes are peeled on what will happen next.

Avid spectators were also pleased that McCoy de Leon’s David is now slowly inching towards being exposed of his frauds and delinquencies after being caught doing the business with the girl he just met in the club.

Another character who got hit by karma was Roda, compellingly portrayed by Joel Lamangan, with the netizens commenting how he absolutely deserved everything that’s happening to him because of how rude, merciless, and overbearing he is.

What happened to Roda is a reminder for us that we should be really mindful of everything that we do because the universe has its way of reciprocating it in a time that we really do not expect. So, we better choose to always be kind and do good if we want the world to return that to us as well.

And with how he’s been notoriously insolent, harsh, and greedy towards the people around him, especially the unprivileged ones like the Dimaguibas and the Dimaculangans, we wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the viewers actually rejoiced as they watched him in utter agony and even expressed how much he “dasurv” it.

We were also touched by the conversation of Tanggol with his friends, wherein he assured them that he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to them while they’re in prison and reminded them to be behave well and get out of trouble in order for them to easily attain parole. It’s really nice to know that they are remorseful of their wrongdoings and are really keen of living brand-new lives as soon as they get emancipated. They’ll make sure to spend time with their respective families, pursue their dreams, and never get in trouble again.

Sadly, he wasn’t able to fulfill his promise of protecting them from their unknown enemies as all that he could do was wail as he agonizingly watched them being mercilessly beaten up and stabbed to death. A scene that the hundreds and thousands of audiences found difficult to watch and didn’t see coming.
