The past week’s (October 9 to October 13) episodes of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo teased us with some of the events that are just the impetus of the exciting happenings that we’re about to see in the coming days. The highlights did not fall short in providing amusement, kilig, and gigil to the viewers.

After spending several days in paradise with just the two of them to celebrate their marriage, newlyweds Mokang (Lovi Poe) and Alberto (Christopher de Leon) finally came home from their blissful honeymoon. As Mokang headed to having a little catch up with her family at their bedroom regarding their honeymoon, Alberto, on the other hand, had a meeting with Don Julio, Olga, and Severino (Dindo Arroyo) about how too nosy and comfortable the Dimaculangans are with their family and business affairs while he and Monique were away.

As her brother Noy (Lou Veloso) elucidated to her the complicated situation that Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) has been in and advised him to lower her pride, Tindeng (Charo Santos) finally came to realize that her daughter was only doing it to attain peace in their household. Thus, she humbly made amends with her and told her that she already agrees to abide by Rigor’s rule of not visiting Tanggol (Coco Martin) in jail yet. However, she insisted to immediately do so once the circumstances would improve, much to the delight of Tess.

At the correctional, Chief Dolores Espinas (Jaclyn Jose) ordered Jail Lieutenant Antonio Macasantos (Lao Rodriguez) to return Tanggol to his cell, as well as heeded to Tanggol’s request for Ben (Mark Lapid) to be taken out of the isolation cell, too. Aside from knowing that Tanggol and his friends didn’t spark the riot, it was also his way of protecting him from any possible harm and gaining his trust since they would use him to fulfill their mission of killing Congressman Sevilla (Jong Cuenco).

Being the dependable right-hand that he is, Severino tried to warn Ramon (who’s also Alberto) against Mokang’s family, especially Edwin. But instead of listening to him, Alberto reminded Severino of his place in that house and that he would do everything to make the Dimaculangans feel happy and contented.

Alberto gifted them with a luxury car and provided them with a chauffeur-cum-bodyguard, as well as 1 million pesos that they could use to start a business and buy everything they want. He was initially hesitant to accept it, but Marsing told Alberto that they would return it once their business flourished. They agreed to establish a money lending business, in pursuit of helping other people in Quiapo who are going through the same plight that they used to be in, as well as pay off their debts to Roda (Joel Lamangan) to get their house back.

While Primo (Lito Lapid), Lucio (Ronnie Lazaro), Turko (Benzon Dalina), and Berting (Joey Marquez) already started planning about the next move that they would do in order to save Amanda (Lorna Tolentino), Augustus (Julio Diaz) paid her a visit in the hospital and ridiculed her for what had happened to her.

Lucio’s ex-partner Yolly (Deborah Sun) was really game to help in every way possible them since she owes Primo so much for saving her life. It was revealed that Lucio and Yolly used to be partners in crime in deceiving other people to extort money from them, so they can be considered “experts” in their craft.

Apart from giving them capital for the business they’re going to put up, Alberto handed Mokang allowance for them to buy new clothes and other stuff that they could use to make themselves look presentable as they are about to start their business. They must learn to embrace the new life that they now have, just like how she does it as Mrs. Frias. So, they went shopping.

Upon finding out that Nita and Marsing are going to establish their business in Quiapo, Olga decided to stop going there for the meantime until she’s able to persuade the Tess and Tindeng that she was not the woman that Noy approached in a coffee shop the other day.

As Macasantos and Jail Warden Gerardo Balatucan (Robert Seña) visited the wounded inmates at the hospital, they were amazed by the endurance of Oweng (Renz Joshua "Little Giant" Baña), who’s still alive despite the injuries that he sustained. They also warned Bong (Vandolph Quizon) that Chief Espinas would surely punish him and his underlings once they returned to jail. Thus, Bong told his minions that they need to come up with a plan to get out of there and to be able to kill all them before they do it to them, to which they were all very supportive about. Their comrades who were left in the cell also had the same thinking, since they’re well-aware that Chief Espinas just disposed all their past hitmen after using them.

As soon as they arrived home, Mokang cooked her favorite adobong manok sa gata for Alberto as per her mother’s advice to her. Olga approached her to tell her to add more garlic to whatever dish that she would prepare for her brother. This made Olga realize that she could actually use Monique to manipulate him if ever he finds out about David and secretly wished for her to stay close to her.

Marsing and Nita went back to Quiapo, astonishing his friends with their lavish car and garbs. They also learned that Roda has already gone bankrupt after the fire that engulfed his house and is now residing at their old home.

They may not have completely recuperated yet, but Tanggol’s friends – except Oweng – were already released from the hospital and were delivered straight to the isolation cell. Chief Espinas thought of using them so that he wouldn’t resist her orders, which includes killing Congressman Sevilla. He was initially hesitant to do it since he never killed someone who didn’t cross him, but subsequently yielded in fears of being the one to be murdered along with his friends.

Comments from netizens

Many were amused by the one-upmanship between Severino and Edwin, as the former is very much watchful to the actions of the latter as his way of protecting his boss Ramon. The same with how Tindeng and Marites finally made amends after having a misunderstanding for the umpteenth time because of Rigor.

Seeing Mokang taking her parents to the mall to shop for them, as well as her being reunited with her besties after not seeing for quite some time, also painted a smile onto our faces.

While Mokang’s romantic moments with Alberto made the butterflies in our stomachs aflutter, it’s definitely not the same story with Lena (Mercedes Cabral) and Rigor, whose illicit affair is very much condemned.

Perhaps, there were viewers who were gigil towards Chief Espinas, Lt. Macasantos, and Warden Balatucan for their harshness towards Tanggol and his friends, and for being hindrances to his goal of finally correcting his past mistakes and living a renewed life.

We were also impressed by Santino’s determination to make his ambition of becoming a professional boxer come true despite being bullied by one of his employers, Lawrence (Paolo Gumabao), as well as by Marsing’s heart to help those people in Quiapo who live the same plight that they used to live.
