Avid viewers of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” were indeed treated to another set of exciting episodes in the previous week (August 5 to August 9), as we witnessed a few nail-biting skirmishes and a couple of exhilarating encounters.

After refusing to forge allegiance with the arrogant Marcelo (Nonie Buencamino) and his troop, Primo (Lito Lapid) and his group had a change of heart when they suddenly arrived at the hideout where Tanggol (Coco Martin), his friends, and other fugitives are kept by Marcelo. They agreed to join them anew, for they didn’t want to leave Tanggol under his wing in fear that it could lead to more trouble, which absolutely delighted Marcelo, especially that they were about to take on their first-ever mission.

During their planning session, Marcelo told them that they would double-cross their foreign clients. This meant that they needed to get the drugs back that Don Facundo (Jaime Fabregas) would trade with them, along with the diamonds that they’re paying them. In order for this to become possible, Marcelo said that the group of Tanggol and Primo would need to disguise themselves as drug enforcers, complete with uniforms, gear, and armaments, and then come into the middle of the transaction. When Tanggol asked how much they’re going to receive once they succeed in this mission, Marcelo told them not to think about it first and assured him that they would surely be delighted by their prize.

Unbeknownst to them, their clients were planning to double cross them as well and wanted to take back the diamonds that they’re going to pay Don Facundo. They contacted PLTCOL Manuel Suarez (King Gutierrez) and instructed him to watch out for Don Facundo’s group then ambush them.

Since her daughter couldn’t do it for herself, Tindeng (Charo Santos) took it upon herself to report the philandering deed of her son-in-law Rigor (John Estrada) and his mistress Lena (Mercedes Cabral) to Col. Suarez, who promised that to investigate the matter.

A heated argument sparked between Tindeng and Rigor inside the precinct after the latter learned what she had just done. Col. Suarez summoned Rigor and warned him that once Tindeng’s accusations against him were proven true, he might be dismissed and imprisoned. So, he asked him to go home early that day and fix his personal mess as soon as possible.

Tindeng went straight to the stall of her daughter Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) in Quiapo to check on her and relay to her that she had already reported him and Lena to their superior. Marites chastised her mother for doing so, saying that she was only making things worse instead of fixing their family problem. As Rigor and Lena were at home plotting their game plan to evade the possible implications of Tindeng’s complaint against them, the mother-and-daughter tandem arrived, and a riotous scuffle ensued between the two parties.

Once all of them were quite pacified, Rigor made Marites choose between living with him and leaving with her mother, to which Marites chose the latter. A lot of viewers were surely outraged when Marites chose to remain with Rigor and blamed Tindeng for turning matters for the worse, even though she only did it because she’s her mother and she doesn’t want her to further get hurt.

As Tindeng walked out of the scene, Marites explained that she just didn’t want her family to be destroyed. Besides, departing from their home would mean that she’s already letting go of Rigor and surrendering to her fight against Lena and for her beloved family.

Tindeng reminded her that more than a complete family, what she really needs is to respect and love herself more, which Marites rebuffed and replied that it was easy for her to say so since she was not the one going through it. They then had a tear-jerking moment in which they gave each other a tight embrace and exchanged “mahal na mahal kita” in between tears that surely touched the hearts of viewers.

After the intense melee that transpired in their house and her touching moment with her mother, Marites received a call from Olga (Irma Adlawan), a.k.a. Beng, who just came from the interment of her daughter, Samantha/Bubbles (Ivana Alawi). Beng asked Marites to meet up with her since she needed someone to talk to, but she initially declined because her situation was a mess, too. However, Beng reminded her of everything that she did for her and her family, which compelled Marites to agree despite not being emotionally, mentally, or even physically available.

Little did Marites know that it was just Olga’s way of taking her into her den in her attempt to exact revenge against Tanggol. Marites and Olga were taken by the abductors, who were actually the latter's henchmen, to a warehouse, where Marites found out that they actually just wanted to know from her the whereabouts of her son, Tanggol.

Meanwhile, as Lucio (Ronnie Lazaro) declared that they’re already running out of illegal substances they got from the Montenegros, Red Phoenix leader Angkong (Joonee Gamboa) suggested that they were going to kill Ramon (Christopher de Leon). He thought of it as a way for them to take over all his suppliers in their family’s drug manufacturing business and eventually rule in Quiapo.

The Red Phoenix was able to locate the new drop-off point for the products of the Montenegros in Quiapo and immediately went there in hopes of catching Ramon. And they succeeded, as the latter went there to check their operations.

Marites was able to take off her ties and escape from the kidnappers, leaving Olga behind. Despite having no weapons, she managed to flee and unexpectedly crossed paths with Ramon, who was already wounded as he and his henchmen figured out a shootout with the Red Phoenix inside an abandoned building.

After their meeting at a yacht marina for their business transaction, Don Facundo and his clients went to the lobby of a nearby hotel, where the groups of Tanggol and Primo were able to successfully execute their mission. Oblivious to what the foreign clients were up to, Don Facundo’s convoy found themselves being anticipated by authorities at a checkpoint, so they quickly took a swerve and fled from them.

While Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) was vehemently mad that their minions still couldn’t find Ramon anywhere, David (McCoy de Leon) was celebrating as he presumed that he and Olga had already succeeded in getting rid of him, despite not knowing who could be the culprit behind his assassination.

Unbeknownst to them, Ramon was able to conquer death after Marites immediately rushed him to the nearest maternity clinic in order for his gunshot wounds to be treated. She did it despite realizing that he was actually the man who sexually abused her many years ago.

Once he gained consciousness, Marites furiously lashed out at him as their unlikely reunion opened up wounds from which she’s been trying to heal. She told him everything that she and her family went through after what he did to her, and he also told her, at the same time, that he’s aware of their child together and that “Tanggol” actually lives with him as they mold him into becoming their heir.

Astonished by what she just heard, Marites pleaded with him in between tears to not destroy the life of their son, just like he did to her.
