Avid viewers of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, especially the ardent shippers of Tanggol and Mokang, the main characters played by Coco Martin and Lovi Poe, were indeed off for a great weekend as the two brought kilig vibes during their simple yet lovely date night in the previous week’s last episode.

However, before we’re able to reach the good, thrilling part, Tanggol, Mokang, and the other characters, as well as the audiences, went through troublesome, vexing, and even touching encounters.

After being able to obtain the trust of Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) by lending her a huge amount of money without asking for any collateral anymore, Olga (Irma Adlawan) proves that she’s indeed unstoppable in executing her evil plans. In order for her to further infiltrate the Dimaguiba household, she once again put on her disguise as their compassionate and friendly suki named Beng. But apart from simply buying all their Black Nazarene images and offering them financial aid upon learning from Tindeng (Charo Santos) and Noy (Lou Veloso) that they have a family emergency, she staged a commotion by having one of her henchmen hold her up.

Tindeng attempted to save her, but the man pushed her aside so hard and fled, leaving Tindeng in pain. Olga volunteered to take her to their home since Noy had to stay at their booth. The bystanders at the threshold of their compound were able to recognize Olga, but she was quick enough to save herself and lied to Tindeng that there’s just a lot of people from there who borrowed money from her.

Prior to that, barangay safety officers and a few policemen went to the Dimaguiba residence to search for Tanggol since he’s wanted for being the alleged suspect in the robbery and attempted homicide involving Roda (Director Joel Lamangan). Santino (Ronwaldo Martin) relayed the information to his Lola Tindeng, who was, of course, shocked since she knows that her beloved apo can’t certainly do it.

Tanggol strongly denied his involvement in the crimes during his conversation with Tindeng at their house when he made a surprise visit, since, as we all know, it was not him and he wasn’t in Quiapo when that happened.

In order to further take a tighter hold on David, Olga went to the hospital to see Marites and even brought a basket of fruits for Camille (Yukii Takahashi). David attempted to stop her, but Marites arrived and invited her to go inside the room. As he accompanied her out, Olga reminded him about their deal and got his phone number for them to keep in touch for his first mission.

Tanggol and David then unexpectedly crossed paths with each other, which sparked tension between them anew. While Tanggol humbly asked for his forgiveness over what he did to him in the past and even tried to hand him some amount, David’s exasperation towards him is just so unremitting. David rejected his money and wished that the authorities will finally catch him and put him in jail. He even told the barangay and police officers where Tanggol ran after their encounter.

As he still finds himself unsettled by the suspicious way Police Lt. Col. Manuel Suarez (King Gutierrez) handled the briefcase of illegal drugs that he surrendered to him, Rigor (John Estrada) continues to investigation regarding the circumstances surrounding it. He even mustered the courage to talk to Police MGen. Augustus V. Pacheco (Julio Diaz) about it and ask for his permission to be in-charge of the case, but to no avail. Instead, Gen. Pacheco told him that proper turnover nor media coverage isn’t necessary anymore since it may affect the crackdown his planning in Quiapo. This made Rigor and his friend PO1 Armando "Mando" Mendoza (Allan Paule) think that maybe Gen. Pacheco and Col. Suarez have a secret conspiracy.

Meanwhile, Tanggol made an unexpected visit to Mokang at the Scorpia Bar, wherein he caught her practicing for her performance as the “Star of the Night.” She initially shooed her away, but Tanggol appeased her that he went there not to cause trouble, but to sincerely apologize for what he did in the previous nightclub where both of them used to work before. He also gave her three baluts and sampaguita garlands as peace offering and as his way of professing his love for her, which made her kilig.

On that same night, Ramon (Christopher de Leon) and Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) had a meeting over dinner with the leaders of the Red Phoenix group at their house after they managed to emancipate them with the help of Police BGen. Avelino Rivas (Pontri Bernardo) and by also bribing the judge who handled their case. They celebrated the new partnership they have and agreed to topple down Augustus and Amanda (Lorna Tolentino) who betrayed them.

Ramon then headed to the Scorpia Bar, wherein Tanggol was patiently waiting for Mokang outside, to have some good time. He got mesmerized by Mokang’s beauty as he watched her daring and sultry performance, and wished to “table” her. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get her since Congressman Sevilla (Jong Cuenco) had already booked her for the night.

But, as if struck of fate, he had the opportunity to meet her, and even hold her hand, after saving him from the pervert politician who tried to take advantage of her while they were at the VIP room despite her rejection. Ramon punched the congressman until he’s bloody and weak and even held him at gunpoint, which made the latter completely surrender. Mokang was so pleased by the gesture and thanked him for it. Smitten by the beauty and strength she exhibited, Ramon ordered his right hand to invite Mokang to his upcoming birthday.

At the Dimaguiba residence, Tess finally found out the allegations hurled at Tanggol from Tindeng, which she didn’t believe, of course, since she knows that her son couldn’t do it. Rigor, at the same time, found out about Tanggol’s visit earlier that day after David told him about it.

During their “heartwarming” conversation, David asked for Rigor’s forgiveness and told him that he’s already found a job as a car sales agent (which we all know is a huge lie) that can support not just the family he’s building with Camille, but also his studies. He promised Rigor that in spite of what happened, he will still fulfill their dream for him to become a policeman, too, like him. He went on to do more lip-service to Rigor and even handed him money from his “salary” as his way of paying back to everything that he’s done for him and their family.

Upon learning that Tanggol went to their house, Rigor confronted the rest of their household and reprimanded them for not telling him about it. He even threatened them that they’ll become accomplices to the crimes being charged to Tanggol if they are not going to help him or the other authorities in seizing him. When there’s just the two of them at their bedroom, Marites once again defended Tanggol and asked him to also forgive Tanggol just like what he did to David. But Rigor reminded her why it’s impossible for him to do it, which we certainly know already, right?

Tanggol’s persistence paid off as Mokang agreed to go on a date with him in Malate, where they ate at a carinderia and he treated her with pansit and tapsilog. As she talked about her experiences at work, Tanggol reiterated that he’s willing to help her with her father’s hospital bills, if she would only give him the chance and the time to do it. But Mokang rejected it again and told him to just work for himself.

He also insisted on waiting for her outside the bar despite her objection after learning the horrible thing that happened to her that evening. Mokang teased him for seemingly got jealous upon knowing that there’s another guy who saved her.

They continued to walk along the bustling streets and chanced upon a busker in one of the parks. Mokang joked that she will finally give him her sweet ‘yes’ to him if he would sing in front of the crowd. Tanggol giddily accepted the challenge and he indeed serenaded her, much to the surprise and delight of Mokang and the onlookers. Adding kilig to this scene was the flashback of their kilig moments together and when they ran together hand in hand from the crowd.

Reactions from the amused and annoyed netizens

A lot indeed happened in the lives of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo characters in the previous week, right? But there are a few that really caught the viewers, which prompted them to share their sentiments on Twitter while watching.

Viewers were thrilled to the almost encounter again of Ramon and Tanggol, who, as we all know, are estranged father and son. Many apparently couldn’t wait for the time that their paths will finally cross and find out the big secret that their respective families have been hiding from them for more than two decades already. Now that there’s Mokang who serves as their common denominator, it seems that the highly anticipated reunion is going to happen sooner than we expect and we cannot wait to see how they’ll react about it.

The “Tanggol” topic then got trending during the July 7 episode as we witnessed the kilig ligawan moment between Tanggol and Mokang, much to delight of their fervent shippers who couldn’t get enough of the natural chemistry between its actors Coco and Lovi as their characters went on a date.

Of course, David wasn’t able to escape the gigil of the irate netizens again because of being an annoying tattletale (or sumbungero) and for being always in “beast mode” all the time towards the people around him, except to Rigor. Besides, the viewers also abhor him for being unforgiving and how he’s really eager to get rid of Tanggol, especially when he found out the truth.
