Ever since it started last February, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo has indeed turned our primetime viewing more exhilarating and action-packed. But just like in every teleserye that we have seen, it also didn’t lack comedic and dramatic scenes that mirror the life of ordinary Filipinos.

And as we’re about to celebrate Mother’s Day, let’s look back on the “mom moments” in the action-drama series that truly touched our hearts and made us identify with certain characters and scenes in this special feature.

Tindeng stops Marites from endangering her unborn child

Just on its first few episodes, we’ve already seen how dysfunctional the relationship of Tindeng (Precious Lara Quigaman/Charo Santo) is with her unica hija Marites (Miles Ocampo/Cherry Pie Picache). Aside from the latter only calls her by her nickname instead of the typical way that we address our mothers, such as Nanay or Mama, we also noticed that she has been so hostile towards her.

But despite the kind of relationship that they have, this didn’t make Tindeng love Marites any less. And we’re able to see that when she stopped her from endangering the life of her unborn child, which she had after getting violated by the hooligan Ramon (Coco Martin/Christopher de Leon) at their home many years ago.

This ensued to a heated and emotional argument between them, with Tindeng confessing that she actually went through the same plight as hers. However, she didn’t consider aborting her because she knew that it’s going to be an unforgivable transgression to God and that she has nothing to do with what had happened to her. Tindeng also reminded her daughter that not another mistake will rectify a mistake.

They may have misunderstandings often and are not completely in good terms, but Tindeng still makes sure to fulfill her duties as a mom by being there whenever she needs her, especially when it comes to taking good care of Tanggol (Coco Martin) and protecting him from his hostile stepfather Rigor (John Estrada).

Marites begs Tanggol to stay out of trouble

She might use to resent having Tanggol, but viewers were surely moved during the highly emotional and powerful “anak ko ‘yan!” scene, wherein the young Marites stopped the young Olga (Ryza Cenon) from taking away her newborn son with all her might. As years went by, regardless of the consistent wrath of her husband Rigor against Tanggol and being a reminder of the gruesome experience, she has learned to accept and love him sincerely.

Marites has been a hands-on mother to Tanggol and his two younger brothers David (McCoy de Leon) and Santino (Ronwaldo Martin). Aside from taking care of them and providing their needs, she also admonishes them whenever they need it, such as when Tanggol and Santino figured in a riot that truly angered Rigor and triggered him to beat him up.

Being a doting mom that she is, she asked Tanggol to stay out of trouble since Santino tends to replicate everything that he does and for their household to also finally attain peace and harmony. And just like what happens in real life, she still fed the two of them even after reprimanding them.

Olga begs Don Julio for Greg

Since she’s an antagonist, many of us arguably do not expect Olga (Irma Adlawan) to be a lovable mom to her unico hijo Greg (RK Bagatsing). But we’re still able to see her maternal side, such as when she lobbied for him to be given a huge and significant role in their family business, which are run by his grandfather Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) and his Uncle Ramon (Christopher de Leon). And that really helped as Don Julio fully entrusted to Greg their transaction with their new business partners from Europe.

While she’s been belittled by her dad and brother ever since, Olga doesn’t want her son to experience it. Thus, she did everything to convince their spiteful patriarch that Greg also deserves to be an important part of their business, and shower him with moral support that she never received from Don Julio and Ramon. She told him, “Dapat makita ng lolo mo kung paano kita nakikita – mahusay, dedikado, at tapat sa pamilyang ‘to. Angkinin mo na ‘to, Greg. Sa’yo ang lahat ng ‘to.”

Regardless of her real intentions in pushing Greg to partake in their venture, we all know that every mom will do everything in order to help their children achieve the things they want or think they truly deserve. Besides, they also serve as their offspring’s number one supporter and cheerleader in their every pursuit, right?

Nita is emotional on Mokang's birthday

As her unica hija Mokang (Lovi Poe) celebrates her 18th birthday, Nita (Susan Africa) couldn’t help but be emotional as she reminisced about carrying her in her arms when she was still a baby and being able to fulfill her dream of having a debut party through her daughter. Although she’s already grown-up, Nita reminded Mokang she will always be the baby of their family.

What makes this scene extra heartwarming is the fact that Nita, Marsing (Pen Medina), and their son Edwin (Ping Medina) still agreed to give the princess of their family a lavish celebration, even though it meant having to borrow money from the wicked Roda (Joel Lamangan) and the gang that Edwin met, which put their house in mortgage and their lives in peril.

Life may be hard, but our parents, especially our moms, would make sure to always give us the best and let us experience the good things in life, regardless of what it entails.

So, this Mother’s Day, let us not forget to express our appreciation and gratitude to our moms, who have been there for us all throughout. Happy Mother’s Day, Kapamilya!
