It has long been believed that grandparents are more affectionate and tender with their grandchildren than they were with their own children when they were younger. And we have probably attested to this a lot of times already through our personal encounters and the teleseryes and movies that we’re able to watch.

One of which is in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” wherein we got to witness the soft side of Don Julio (Tommy Abuel), the domineering, harsh, arrogant, and wicked patriarch of the Montenegro family who always instantly becomes a "softie" when it comes to David (McCoy de Leon).

While he pompously claims that he’s wise, Don Julio has been oblivious that David and his daughter Olga (Irma Adlawan) are able to trick him into assuming that David is indeed his estranged grandson Jesus Nazareno, which happens to be Tanggol (Coco Martin). Thus, he has always shown David his soft side, as seen in the clips that we collated in this Kapamilya Toplist feature.

Right from the very moment that Olga introduced David to them, Don Julio has been totally convinced that David is indeed the long-lost heir of their family, especially when she presented them the results of their DNA test, which we all know was bogus. Don Julio was also able to convince his son, Ramon (Christopher De Leon), to believe so, and he succeeded.

On his first-ever bonding moment with David, Don Julio already showed him tenderness with the way he talked to him and gave him welcome presents, such as a gun and fancy car. Meanwhile, upon Ramon’s return from his honeymoon escapade with wife Mokang (Lovi Poe), Don Julio advised him to not mind their business meetings yet and concentrate instead on spending time with “son” since he knew all too well that he had been waiting for that moment.

As Ramon’s doubts towards David continues to linger, which initially prevented him from unveiling to David their family’s illegal business, Don Julio made another attempt to persuade him. He reminded him of the proofs which confirmed that he’s indeed the one they had been looking for and told him that he already considered David as his grandson in both his mind and heart.

And in recent weeks, we had witnessed the frequent altercations between Ramon and David due to differences in their mindset and business strategies.

Following his successful arranged marriage with the heiress Katherine (Ara Davao) and the harrowing massacre of the Caballeros, David became too focused on obtaining the remaining assets of the deceased family under his name. Ramon, however, was not much in favor of this endeavor since he preferred for him to focus on their family business first before addressing other issues. Fortunately for David, he has found an ally in Don Julio, who defended him from Ramon and gave David permission to leave.

Don Julio explained to Ramon that it could be a brilliant way for them to gauge the capabilities of David, as well as let him to stand on his own, build his own empire, and establish his own legacy, which are the things that he cannot accomplish yet in their family business since both of them are still alive.

And lastly, as Ramon got enraged by David’s absence while their business was on the rocks, Don Julio advised his son to cut David some slack and let him enjoy the fruits of his labor, which Ramon refused to heed.

We could only imagine how Don Julio and Ramon are going to react once David’s true identity is unveiled. Are you as excited as us to see that highly anticipated moment, too?
