Relationships between family members can be complicated. Sometimes things happen that push people apart. This is especially true for mother-daughter relationships, like that of Tindeng (Charo Santos) and Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. Re-watch their emotionally-charged confrontations via this Kapamilya Toplist video.

Their connection was laced with bitterness, which they unleashed when Tindeng caught Marites holding a bottle of “pamparegla.” She tried to enlighten her by recounting that she once went through a similar experience, yet never did she consider abortion.

They’re on a mountain of rage, with Rigor (John Estrada) pulling them along the peaks. Conflict arises everytime Marites prioritizes her husband and fails to consider the feelings of her eldest son, Tanggol (Coco Martin). And whenever she neglects Tanggol, she hurts Tindeng, too.

Tindeng called out Marites for validating Rigor’s violent behavior. She detailed Marites’ toxic patterns as a mother, hitting straight at her blind devotion toward her husband. Tindeng said that Marites must learn fairness as a mother, so Tanggol wouldn’t feel unloved. But when confronted by reality, Marites would resort to playing the victim and act like she’s getting all the blame. She’d say that she loves her sons fairly, yet Tindeng sees something very different.

In the next scene, Noy (Lou Veloso) noted that Nita (Susan Africa) and Marsing (Pen Medina) displayed stout affection for Mokang (Lovi Poe) that they gave her a big debut party. Tindeng breathed out, “’Pag mahal mo ang isang tao gagawin mo ang lahat ng ikasasaya niya.” Marites felt the sting, but opted not to fight back, at least not through words. This scene transpired after Marites sent Tanggol out for beating David (McCoy de Leon), again, without hearing both sides of the story.

Tension thickened when Tindeng got into trouble with Roda (Joel Lamangan), their greedy landlord. Marites blamed Tindeng for exacerbating their problems. Here, we see their differences. Tindeng stood her ground after she was asked to kneel and kiss Roda’s feet, while Marites would rather stay silent and take all the insults thrown their way. Their opposing ways of confronting problems would result in misunderstandings.

Even when people outside their family home assert that Rigor is the root cause of conflict, Marites wouldn’t listen. Marsing and Nita served this truth in her face after their daughter, Mokang, was caught up in Rigor and Tanggol’s discord. Then, Tindeng and Noy exploded in on the tension as well.

In the final scene in this video montage, Marites swallowed her pride to mend her relationship with her mother. After Tindeng expressed her feelings of hurt and bitterness due to Rigor’s disrespect, Marites apologized on her husband’s behalf. She said that even she is caught in a dilemma, trying to hold their family together as fairly as possible. The mother and daughter both said their piece and reconciled.

However complicated their relationship is, at the end of the day, Tindeng and Marites are each other’s home.
