McCoy de Leon and Yukii Takahashi’s characters, David and Camille, bring viewers of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo a mix of emotions, form ‘kilig’ to ‘gigil.’ What if these two watch their scenes from the series, what would they probably feel? Find out in this edition of Rate and React on Kapamilya Chat.

Here, McCoy and Yukii were shown their clips from FPJ’s Batang Quiapoo and they would react to or share trivia bits about that scene.

We begin with their intimate scene in a motel, which made them cover their faces in embarrassment. “Para akong kinain ng lupa do’n, ah! Hindi ako makatingin,” Yukii said. She proceeded, “Hindi ako nakapag-mentally prepare, sobrang surprise. Pero they were cautious, sina Direk [Coco Martin], sina McCoy kasi sobrang first time ko mag-acting. Talagang na-guide naman ako.” She added that she didn’t have to act nervous because she really was.

McCoy seconded that most scenes in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo are spontaneous since they don’t follow a script. Thus, they must be on their toes. A true gentleman, he discussed the scene with Yukii before take, making sure that she was comfortable.

The next scene was a showcase of Yukii’s dramatic talent, which is impressive for a newcomer like her. Here, Camille revealed to David that she’s pregnant. Asked her message to her character, who’s going through a lot of challenges, Yukii imparted, “Mahirap ‘yung sitwasyon ni Camille at hindi ko alam ‘yung feeling na ‘yun kasi iba talaga ‘yung nararansan nila. Siyempre, once na pregnant ka, nagme-mess up ka na talaga. Sometimes nagiging emotional.”

She thinks the best thing Camille could do is lower her pride, ask for her parents’ forgiveness and go back home. More importantly, she hopes Camille doesn’t turn a blind eye to David’s red flags. “Gusto mong mahalin ‘yung tao kasi gusto mong maging selfless ka. Pero hindi mo na napapansin, Camille, na gina-gaslight ka na. Sobrang red flag niyang si David. Sana lang makita mo ‘yung sarili mo na sobrang kawawa ka. Paninindigan ka naman ng magulang mo,” she talked to her on-screen persona.

Meanwhile, McCoy also aired his disappointment with David’s behavior and decisions, “Siguro hindi ko magiging kaibigan ‘yan.” But, he acknowledged that there are still many Davids out there. He only hopes for a miracle that those who are like David in real life may be enlightened through the series. Yukii seconded, “Totoo. Sometimes kasi you don’t see what you do to other people.”

Lastly, they re-watched the scene where Camille revealed her pregnancy to her parents, leading to a fallout with her family. Here, Yukii experienced her first ‘sampalan’ scene. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for the actors and we can all agree that they were excellent. Yukii shared that her emotions came out naturally after putting herself in Camille’s shoe, and looking into how much of a mess her feelings were. “Sobrang pressure dahil nga sinabi agad ni David sa eksena na ‘yun na boyfriend ko siya. Hindi man lang ako nakapag-introduce nang maayos. Everything is a mess at sobrang sakit,” she flashbacked.

McCoy further shared that such scenes teach him to be a team player. He learned, especially through Coco Martin’s example that he must also give his co-actor a chance to shine. He understood that Yukii must own this scene, and from there, the rapport became more natural.

“Ang dami ko din nakaka-work na, alam mo ‘yun, mararamdaman mo masyadong namang competitive. So, hindi nagwo-work ‘yung eksena, hindi gumaganda ‘yung eksena kasi pataasan. For me, bigayan ‘yan, eh. Kaya ‘yun ang trivia ko dun na always tulungan,” he imparted.

And because of their teamwork, McCoy and Yukii capture viewers with their chemistry. Catch more of them in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, weeknights, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, and A2Z.
