MANILA (UPDATED) - The two major telecommunications firms will turn off mobile phone services in selected areas during the annual procession of the Black Nazarene on Tuesday. Globe Telecom on Monday said &quot;there will be a temporary loss of mobile signal in Manila, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Makati and other neighboring areas during the Black Nazarene procession on January 9, starting 5 a.m.&quot;Globe said the move was in compliance with the National Telecommunications Commission&#x27;s (NTC) order. It advised its customers to follow Globe&#x27;s Twitter at @talk2GLOBE for service updates. Smart Communications Inc. said: &quot;In the interest of public safety, we are temporarily suspending our mobile services tomorrow, January 9 starting at 5 am, in Quiapo, Manila and along the route of the Black Nazarene procession. This is compliance with the order of the National Telecommunications Commission at the request of the Philippine National Police.&quot;&quot;We will restore our mobile services in the affected areas as soon as we get the go signal from the authorities,&quot; the company, which operates Smart, TNT, and Sun, said.
