MANILA – Chinese offshore gaming workers will soon have to undergo “basic” Philippine history lessons under a new policy approved by the country’s gaming regulator, an official said Friday.

The board of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) approved a new resolution that would require foreign nationals to get a gaming employment license and attend a 6-month training program on “basic” history, laws and rights of foreign workers prior to working here, acting vice president for Offshore Gaming Licensing Department Jose Tria told DZMM radio.

“Kasama po sa i-rerequire na sila mag-undergo ng mga training, pag-aaralan nila ang basic history ng Philippines, do’s and don’t’s dito sa Pilipinas, anong mga batas ang dapat nila igalang dito,” Tria said.

The new policy will also apply to existing POGO workers, he said.

The agency met with the representatives of the Chinese Embassy earlier where an agreement to review the records of all Chinese nationals here was made, Tria said.

“Para sa kanila po ayaw din po nila na makilala ang mga Chinese nationals ng mga Pilipino bilang mga criminal,” he said.
