MANILA -- Bank of the Philippines Islands will "stay the course" in shifting its services to digital, its president said Friday, after scheduled and unscheduled service interruptions inconvenienced its clients.

The last few days showed that the "digital journey is challenging" for the country's fourth largest banks by assets, BPI president Cezar Consing said in a statement.

"But we are convinced that the efforts will pay off and will stay the course," Consing said.

"The upgrade of our systems is part and parcel of digitalizing the bank. A digital BPI would be in the best position to serve the modern day Filipino," he said.

BPI scheduled maintenance works last weekend over 3 days, during which electronic channels were unavailable.

On Thursday, some services were again inaccessible with the bank citing "some issues with the systems upgrade." Services were restored around midnight.
