MANILA - The Department of Labor and Employment on Thursday said it suspended the operations of a subcontractor of Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries in Subic following an accident that killed 1 worker and injured 3 others. Binictican I-Tech Corp was slapped with a work stoppage order after the company failed to &quot;strictly implement and monitor safety procedures,&quot; DOLE said.Four workers fell from a scaffolding in the afternoon of May 12, said DOLE regional director Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita. A supervisor interviewed by safety inspectors said only 2 workers were authorized to work in the area. Investigators said also noted that the bolt of the scaffolding’s bracket was sheared.“Clearly, there was an unsafe working condition because of an overload of workers and their equipment on the scaffolding, causing its sudden collapse,&quot; DOLE said. The work stoppage order will remain in effect until Binictican I-Tech fully complies with occupational safety and health standards, DOLE said.
