MANILA - Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) on Thursday promised its clients that it would restore all its services "very soon" as it continued to correct inconsistencies on bank accounts following a massive glitch that disrupted electronic services starting Wednesday.

"We expect complete restoration of services very soon, as we fully recognize your requirements ahead of the coming long weekend, including transactions via our electronic channels," the bank's latest statement read.

The country's third largest lender, which has 8 million clients, however did not give a specific time or date when its electronic services, particularly transactions via automated teller machines (ATM), could be restored.

"We wish to assure you that we are exerting all efforts to rectify balances of accounts with mis-posted transactions. We have isolated the cause of our systems error," BPI said in a 6 p.m. advisory.

BPI said its branches would be open until 7:30 p.m. Thursday to service their transactions, particularly, withdrawals, deposits, and payments.

Other banking services such as credit cards, remittance, SWIFT, equities, brokerage investments, and loans remain operational.

BPI said the glitch was fixed late Wednesday but some customers reported that mis-postings still persisted. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said it would investigate the incident.

Lawmakers have also called for a legislative inquiry into the incident.
