Grab readies new payment scheme to protect food couriers

Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA — Grab said Thursday it would soon allow food couriers to pick up orders without paying in cash as part of measures to protect drivers from prank orders.Under the new system that will start by August, the orders would have been paid for by Grab at the time of pickup, Grab Philippines spokesperson Nicka Hosaka told a House committee on trade and industry hearing.Upon delivery, the rider will then collect the payment from the customer. After payment, only then the delivery amount will be deducted from the Grab driver&#x27;s wallet, Hosaka said.If the driver fails to collect payment from the customer, no amount will be deducted from his or her wallet, Hosaka said. Up to 70 percent of transactions will be shifted to the new payment scheme.The committee was threshing out provisions of the proposed Food and Grocery Delivery Services Protection Act authored by AKO Bicol party-list Rep.
