MANILA - Facebook on Monday announced that users of its Messenger app in the Philippines will now be able to use an AI-powered feature that will "enrich the way people communicate and get things done."

The social media giant said people can experience Messenger's new feature called "M" by simply chatting with a friend or a group.

"From there, M makes relevant suggestions to the conversation," Facebook said in a statement.

When a user types "Happy Birthday," M will suggest birthday GIFs.

When someone asks "Where are you?", M will recommend users share their location.

When someone types “want to call me?”, M will bring up Messenger's call feature.

The new feature will also suggest to people in group conversations who need to make a decision to set a poll topic and vote.

"M uses machine learning to identify intent and suggest actions that help people effectively manage their conversations. The more the technology is utilized, the more it learns about peoples' communication patterns," Facebook said.

People who don't want the AI feature can turn off M in their settings.

Aside from the Philippines, M will also become available in Vietnam on Monday. Users will need to update their app to use M.
