OSAKA - Nintendo Co. said Tuesday it will move part of its Switch game console production from China to Vietnam to address risks from the ongoing trade conflict between the United States and China.

The Japanese videogame maker has been producing most of the consoles in China. It sold about 17 million Switch machines worldwide in fiscal 2018 and 40 percent of them were exported from China to the North and Latin American markets, the company said.

Nintendo plans to start production in Vietnam this summer after finalizing terms with a contractor.

The United States and China agreed last month to revive their stalled negotiations to resolve the tit-for-tat tariff battle.

But Nintendo has determined it is necessary to avoid the risks from making most of its products in a particular country. The company said it had been considering moving part of Switch production outside China for several years.
