Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</figcaption></figure></div> MANILA -- The consortium of Megawide-GMR on Friday said government has granted it &quot;original proponent status,&quot; paving the way for rehabilitation of the country&#x27;s main international gateway.In a letter dated July 15, 2020, Megawide Construction Corp. told the stock exchange that the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has granted its consortium &quot;original proponent status&quot; for the upgrade and rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Authority (NAIA).Megawide-GMR also operates the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.“Our team has transformed MCIA as primarily the country’s top tourism gateway. We aim to contribute our experience in airport development and value engineering to the long-awaited resurgence of NAIA,” Megawide managing director for Transportation Louie Ferrer.“We believe in the potential of NAIA and we see its vital role in our economy’s recovery and continuing development.
