MANILA – A mobile app to help commuters navigate the Light Rail Transit system will be launched in August, the operator of LRT Line 1 said Thursday.

The app, which will be available on both iOS and Android, will provide commuters with real-time train schedules using GPS trackers, as well as a crowd monitoring feature, Light Rail Manila Corp president and CEO Juan Alfonso told ANC.

“It helps passengers really navigate through the LRT system. It gives them real-time schedules of when the trains are arriving… With the crowd function if one of riders is beside two stations he can choose between stations with the least amount of traffic,” Alfonso said.

The construction of the LRT-1 Cavite extension will be visible from the streets in the coming weeks. Funding for the project was secured despite the delay in the approval of Light Rail Manila’s proposed fare hike, he said.
