3 BIR examiners in trouble for misconduct over tax settlement

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/news-special1/nation/07/07/caesar-dulay-joel-guinto-abs-cbn-news-070716.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">New BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay. <em>File photo</em></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA - Three employees of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) were suspended and charged with grave misconduct over allegations of corruption.</p><p>The BIR said a taxpayer alleged that tax examiners Susan Ferrer and Rogelio Jugao attempted to collect P3 million and P30 million, respectively, for the settlement of a tax liability.</p><p>Crisanto Olazo, group supervisor of Revenue District Office No. 40, was charged for allegedly allowing the attempt to collect the P30 million settlement.</p><p>Ferrer, Jugao, and Olazo were ordered suspended preventively for 90 days and faced formal administrative charges signed by BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay. They will also face criminal complaints before the court.<br/><br/>Dulay, in his signed orders, said the three employees &quot;failed to discharge their duties with the highest degree of integrity, honesty, excellence, professionalism and impartiality and had committed acts that carry the elements of corruption, clear intent to violate the law, and flagrant disregard of established rules in the conduct of audit and investigation of tax cases.&quot;</p>
