Globe Telecom Inc. said Thursday it was preparing its infrastructure for President Rodrigo Duterte's emergency hotline launching next month.

The government is eyeing 911 and Globe's own 8888 for the service, which aims to replicate Duterte's hotline in Davao City, Globe said in a statement.

"Globe clarifies that it will be strictly complying with the directives of the government of implementing the hotlines to the public. This includes whether calls to 911 and 8888 will be free of charge or not," it said.

Subscribers will be charged an additional P5 on top of standard voice call rates for the government's upkeep of the hotline.
