MANILA - Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA said it would open its online store in the Philippines in 2021, months ahead of its physical shop in the country located at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City dubbed as “the world’s largest IKEA store.”

"The company is bringing Swedish home furnishings and meatballs to millions more people in the coming year as it enters both Mexico and the Philippines, with web shops opening up months before the physical stores in both countries," IKEA's division in Southeast Asia and Mexico said in a statement Tuesday.

It has already set-up its Philippine website which currently posts announcements, catalogs and job opportunities.

IKEA initially planned to open the world's largest store in the Philippines this year, however, it was moved to 2021 due to construction delays, IKEA Southeast Asia market development manager Georg Platzer earlier said.

The Swedish retailer currently has 9 stores in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
