MANILA – Some 195 provincial buses coming from the south were exempted from ending their routes at the newly-built Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange to make up for insufficient bus supply in the city, a transport official said Tuesday.

The operators of the 195 buses were not favored by regulators, contrary to allegations by their colleagues, Transportation Undersecretary Mark De Leon told the Senate Committee on Public Services.

"We saw that kapag pinutol lahat ng provincial buses in PITX (If we cut the trips of all provincial buses in PITX) there’s not enough supply of city buses going inside Lawton area," he De Leon said.

Senator Grace Poe said the lack of buses in the city could be solved by adding more city buses.

"Papatayin niyo ngayon ang PITX. Ang punto ko dyan kaya nga ito ginawa para mamodernisa at mailagay sa ayos ang pagsakay ng pasahero imbes na magdagdag kayo ng city buses na talagang city lang dumadaan, ano bang klase yan?" Poe said.

(You are killing the PITX. My point is, it's meant to modernize and bring order to commuting, rather than add more city buses. What kind of setup is that?)

The PITX is still on "dry-run" and transport officials are gathering information on commuter patterns, De Leon said.
