<p>MANILA — The government has funds ready and available to finance relief and rehabilitation of areas hit by severe tropical storm Kristine, the Department of Finance said Friday.</p><p>According to Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, the government has sufficient funds for relief and rehabilitation of typhoon-hit areas, and to capacitate local government units’ disaster preparedness and response efforts.</p><p>“Rest assured, we have adequate funds in the National Treasury to quickly deliver more critical services and fund post-disaster emergency response, recovery, and reconstruction efforts,” he said.</p><p>Under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) Act of 2024, the government has funds available under the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (NDRRMF) and the Quick Response Fund (QRF) to be used for disaster relief operations.</p><p>These include reconstruction, rehabilitation or repair of damaged roads, bridges and buildings, among others.</p><p>The funds can also be used to provide relief to affected communities.</p><p>The DOF, likewise, can use unprogrammed funds, the USD 500 million standby credit line, a Rapid Response Option (RRO) facility, and several contingent emergency response components from the World Bank; and a post-disaster standby financing from Japan.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Bureau of Internal Revenue has extended the deadline for payments and submission of other reportorial requirements in selected Regional District Offices (RDOs) until October 31, 2024, to support those severely affected by the typhoon.</p><p>The Bureau of Customs is also in the process of assessing its inventory of forfeited goods, food and agricultural products that are safe for donation to typhoon victims.</p><p>The Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) are also extending financial assistance through their calamity and emergency loans, while the Land Bank of the Philippines will facilitate quick access to salary loans for government employees and companies with Landbank payrolls.</p><p>Kristine, which exited the Philippine area of responsibility Friday afternoon, left at least 40 people dead as it battered Luzon.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/25/-kristine-exits-par-another-tropical-cyclone-looms-1733">‘Kristine’ exits PAR; another tropical cyclone looms</a></div><p>Tens of thousands remained displaced after fleeing floods driven by a torrential downpour that dumped two months&#x27; worth of rainfall in just two days in some areas.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/regions/2024/10/25/severe-storm-leaves-ph-towns-submerged-death-toll-rises-1405">Severe storm leaves PH towns submerged, death toll rises</a></div><p>More than 3.3 million Filipinos have been affected by the onslaught of Kristine all over the country, with thousands still reeling from the effects of the storm, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Friday. </p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/24/kristine-affects-3-3-million-filipinos-tens-of-thousands-still-in-shelters-dswd-724">• Kristine affects 3.3 million Filipinos, tens of thousands still in shelters - DSWD</a></div>
