<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:900px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/173095489098820230111-qc-skyline-buildings-MD-1.jpg" style="width:900px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Skyline and buildings in Quezon City on January 11, 2023. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA —  A bill seeking to authorize the government to seize real estate properties unlawfully acquired by foreign nationals was filed on Thursday before the House of Representatives. </p><p>Leaders of the House Quad Committee filed House Bill 11043 after its investigation into alleged criminal activities linked to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) showed that some foreigners acquired Filipino citizenship by presenting alleged fake documents.</p><p>Under the measure, any real estate property transferred or conveyed to unqualified foreign national, natural or juridical, in violation of the Constitutional prohibition, is &quot;null and void, and vests no rights and creates no obligations.&quot;</p><p>It further states that the Solicitor General shall institute civil forfeiture proceedings and may delegate the same to the National Prosecution Service of the Department of Justice.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/21/house-quad-comm-urges-osg-to-file-forfeiture-cases-vs-pogo-bosses-1328" id="isPasted">House quad comm urges OSG to file forfeiture cases vs POGO bosses</a></div><p>&quot;Marami po tayong na-discover na mga properties na-acquire ng mga foreign nationals dito sa ating bansa. Alam naman po natin na ito ay labag sa ating Saligang Batas. Kaya ito ay kina-klaro natin sa pamamagitan nitong House Bill na ito, nang sa ganoon ay hindi na ito maulit,&quot; Quad Comm co-chairperson Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said.</p><p>&quot;Ito ay produkto ng imbestigasyon ng Quad Comm, kung saan na-discover natin na sa Pampanga ay marami, libo-libong ektarya ng lupa ang binili at na-acquire nitong mga Chinese nationals, na ang layunin siguro ay magtayo ng kanilang POGO o hindi kaya itong mga warehouse na sinasabi,&quot; he added.</p><p>&quot;Kaya hindi na po namin hinintay itong ating committee report dahil kitang-kita naman po at baka po maibenta pa ito nang mabilisan… At according to Congressman Dan Fernandez, ay meron daw pong naibenta na property na illegally acquired by a foreign national.&quot;</p><p>Last month, the House Quad Comm submitted key documents to the Office of the Solicitor General for potential legal action against Chinese nationals accused of using fake Filipino citizenship to acquire land and establish businesses in the Philippines. </p><p>The House mega-panel urged the OSG to fast-track the review and initiate legal actions, including civil forfeiture proceedings, with relevant agencies.</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_xc9nrK5dJ8?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
