MANILA - The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas aims to boost the corporate bond market. BSP Senior Assistant Governor Johnny Noe Ravalo said 80 percent of the country’s market finance comes from the banking industry while only 20 percent comes from corporate bonds. “From 80-20 (percent), we’ll get to a number balancing it off. We’d like to see more issuers from a diverse set of credit rating,” Ravalo said. He added that investing in existing corporate bonds poses less risk as most issuers have the lowest expectation of failure risk.The BSP said it remains confident of growth this year as it urged investors to take advantage of the positive sentiment stemming from the high 2023 GDP growth and easing inflation.“We are growing faster than the rest of the world. Inflation is going down. It’s no longer the 8 percent [inflation] we started 2023 with. Let’s recognize and take advantage of the positive view but let’s also understand that nothing is permanent. Markets can change,” Ravalo said.The Financial Stability Coordination Council has released the 2023 Financial Stability Report assessing the local financial situation to help manage systemic risks.The report mentioned that markets are keeping an eye on the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy stance.The FSCC said it is more likely that the Fed will keep its policy rates higher for longer than the market expected before 2023 ended.<div> </div><div> </div>
