MANILA - More luxury brands are expected to come to the Philippines in the coming years. Ayala Malls President Mariana Zobel de Ayala said on Thursday as the group announced the planned renovations of Greenbelt 1 and 2.She said that with the recent redevelopment of other Greenbelt malls, luxury brands have seen a rise in demand in the country, hence many newcomers would like to set up shop in the soon-to-be renovated spaces.“With Greenbelt 3 and 4 renovations, we saw an increase in demand from what we call heritage luxury brands with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi,&quot; said Zobel de Ayala.New luxury brands are also coming in, but company officials said they can’t disclose their names yet.AC Legarda, VP of Ayala Malls and Area Head for Greenbelt, said the group intends to make Greenbelt a fashion and luxury address in Southeast Asia. “We have received a lot of applicants, applications from brands that we never imagined would be interested in Manila. There was a trip that we made in Singapore and we were pleasantly surprised that everyone, most luxury brands would like to meet with us. They know Greenbelt and want to be part of us,” Legarda said.Aside from Greenbelt, nearby Glorietta is also undergoing a major redevelopment. That includes closing some roads in the area and extending the mall to the two parks near Shangri-La Makati and the one in front of Glorietta 4.“One facing the Ascott Hotel, so we’re integrating that entire thing, that entire plaza to Glorietta 4. On the other side, Glorietta 3, we’ll bring two big restaurants. The park will be integrated into the building. We’re actually closing off some roads, make it more pedestrian-friendly, pet-friendly,” said Hamm Katipunan, Ayala Malls&#x27; Area Head for Makati.There will also be a cherry blossom area in one of the malls of Ayala as the company wants to enhance its green spaces. “We’re trying to create something iconic with the landscape as well. Our development team is currently looking at creating an entire Palawan cherry orchard garden. So we can have beautiful cherry blossoms we see in Japan,” said Paul Birkett, COO of Ayala Malls.Ayala Malls will spend P13 billion to upgrade 4 malls - Glorietta, Greenbelt, Trinoma, and Ayala Center Cebu.
