PCC raises thresholds for merger reviews

MANILA -- The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) has raised the thresholds for mergers that it needs to review.

From March 1, mergers and acquisitions that breach a size of party of P7.8 billion and a size of transaction of P3.2 billion would have to notify the agency for mandatory merger review.

The thresholds were previously set at P7 billion and P2.9 billion, respectively.

The updated thresholds do not cover notifications filed before March 1, 2024, mergers and acquisitions currently under review, or those already reviewed and decided upon by the commission.

The PCC annually adjusts its thresholds based on the official estimate of the nominal gross domestic product (GDP) growth of the previous year.

The antitrust body said it has 293 mergers and acquisitions, collectively valued at more than P5.49 trillion.
