MANILA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday said it has exceeded its February collection target.

In a statement, the tax agency said it collected P446.423 billion, up 24.32 percent from collections in the same period last year.

This is also higher than BIR's February target of P445.535 billion.

BIR is aiming to collect P3.055 trillion in 2024, which is higher than the 2023 actual collection by 21.38 percent.

BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui said they hope to encourage more Filipinos to voluntarily pay their taxes by going after buyers and sellers of fake receipts, and by improving their digitalization projects.
