Gigie Cruz, ABS-CBN News/File</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Department of Agriculture (DA) is confident that the NFA council’s decision to hike the buying prices of palay would lead to an increase in local rice production. </p><p>The NFA council earlier approved an increase in the buying price of fresh palay to P17 to P23/kilo from P16 to P19/kilo, and dry and clean palay to P23 to 30/kilo from the previous P19-23/kilo.</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/2024/4/11/nfa-council-approves-higher-buying-price-for-palay-1612" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">READ: NFA Council approves higher buying price for palay</a></div><div> </div><p>“Unang-una, mas maeengganyo iyong ating mga magsasaka na magtanim dahil mas malaki iyong puwedeng maging income nila at inaasahan din natin na mas malaking area iyong matataniman. So ang net effect nito, mas lalago lalo ang produksiyon ng palay sa ating bansa,&quot; DA spokesperson Arnel de Mesa said in a televised briefing.</p><p>(Our farmers will be more encouraged to plant because their income can be bigger and we also expect that larger areas will be used to plant rice.
