<div><br/></div><p>MANILA - The Philippines posted a balance of payments (BOP) surplus of $1.2 billion in March this year, which was slightly lower than the $1.3 billion surplus booked in March last year, <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(65, 65, 65);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said Friday.</span>  </p><p>This brought the current year-to-date BOP level to $238 million surplus, lower than the $3.5 billion surplus recorded in January-March 2023, the BSP said.  </p><p>&quot;Based on preliminary data, this cumulative BOP surplus reflected mainly the improvement in the balance of trade alongside the net inflows from personal remittances, net foreign borrowings by the NG, foreign direct investments, and foreign portfolio investments,&quot; the central bank added. </p><p>The surplus also raised the country&#x27;s gross international reserves (GIR) level to $104.1 billion as of the end of March from $102.0 billion as of the end of February 2024. </p><p>This was enough to cover 7.7 months’ worth of imports of goods and services, and about 5.9 times the country’s short-term external debt based</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j-GjTH0Z_i4?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
