MANILA - Companies should not try to lure in job applicants with fancy job titles if these jobs actually involve lower-level work and pay, a recruitment expert warns.Recruitment specialist firm Robert Walters said there has been a rise in &quot;job title inflation&quot; among Filipino employers.An inflated job title for a receptionist could be &quot;Manager for First Impressions&quot; while that for a customer service representative may be &quot;Director for Customer Success&quot;, said Jayson Mendoza, manager of Human Resources &amp; Industrial at Robert Walters Philippines. The firm noted a 34 percent increase in titles such as &#x27;Director&#x27; and a 22 percent rise in titles like &#x27;President&#x27; for positions intended for professionals with only 2 years&#x27; worth of experience. Startup companies in e-commerce, digital media, marketing and advertising, and professional services, sometimes resort to inflated job titles. The firm says that this practice, which makes a position more attractive than it actually is, does not bode well for the company and employer.  &quot;Not only is it detrimental to the company but to the employee itself once they realize that the position they&#x27;ve applied for isn&#x27;t really a strategic position,&quot; said Mendoza.Companies will have a problem retaining these employees because their job title is inflated, he added. Misaligned expectations, mismatches in recruitment, and strained relationships and resentment among employees may arise with job title inflation.
