MANILA — Power distribution utility company Meralco said on Wednesday it is supporting the Metro Manila Council's resolution encouraging all local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region to enact their own ordinances that would regulate and monitor the installation and maintenance of distribution lines to avoid having dangling or “spaghetti” wires.

Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga told ABS-CBN News that the utility distributor supports the initiative of MMC and MMDA against this problem.

“Ang ginagawa namin, tinatanggal namin yung mga hindi nagpaalam magkabit ng linya. Inaayos namin yung mga areas na sala-salabat. Aligned ito dun sa aming overall program namin particularly dito sa Metro Manila. Sa ilalimng programang ito we are addressing the problem of overloading nung mga attachments etc,” Zaldarriaga said.

According to Zaldarriaga, Meralco will follow any legal ordinances from all the LGUs in the Metropolis against dangling wires and cables.

“Kami sa Meralco tuloy-tuloy lang naman yung aming anti-urban poor campaign. Susunod kami sa lahat ng ordinansa…I would like to think na iisa lang naman yung layunin nito na maayos yung lugar kung saan may ganyang sitwasyon, spaghetti wires, unauthorized attachments etc,” Zaldarriaga told ABS-CBN News.
