MANILA - The Luzon power grid was placed on yellow alert on Wednesday.

5 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Luzon's power grid has an available capacity of 12,969 megawatts, while peak demand is estimated to reach 11,768MW.

The NGCP said several plants are on forced outage while others have been running on lowered or derated capacities, which have led to 3,017.9MW unavailable to the grid.

The Visayas and Mindanao grids meanwhile are operating normally, the NGCP said.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement, the power firm said.

The Philippines suffered a power crisis during the height of the dry season from April to May as energy demand surged while several power plants were shut down.
