MANILA - The Department of Trade and Industry and the Valenzuela City LGU closed a warehouse storing products for sale online that were allegedly &quot;unsafe.&quot;The DTI&#x27;s Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB) and the Valenzuela City Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) closed a warehouse of I Benson Trading for storing products that allegedly illegal use Philippine Standard (PS) mark stickers and International Commodity Compliance (ICC) stickers.The warehouse was also non-compliant with Valenzuela’s business requirements, authorities said. DTI-FTEB division chief Ray Baluyot said, more than 9,000 different products were sealed already after finding out that they were unsafe. “Meron po kasing na-file na consumer complaint sa FTEB na ito po eh nagbebenta online ng mga uncertified o walang PS mark or ICC mark from the Bureau of the Philippine Standards. Nakapag-sealed po tayo dito ng 9,874 na unregistered products so worth around P7.8 million,” according to Baluyot.These products include unregistered rice cookers, blenders, washing machines and other products.According to Baluyot, DTI-FTEB already issued a notice of violation to the warehouse owner last June 26, 2024.“Meron po silang declared na business sa legal document nila pero iba naman ang nangyayari sa loob ng warehouse,” Baluyot said.Baluyot explained the importance of having authentic ICC or PS mark stickers on products being sold.“Itong mga stickers na to, nagpapatunay na ito ay nag-undergo ng mandatory certification. Dito tine-test natin kung ito ba ay quality o naayon sa tamang standards po. So hindi siya puwedeng lumabas sa merkado na hindi pasado sa kalidad dahil ito po’y pwedeng magdulot ng perwisyo sa ating mga consumer,”  Baluyot said.Authenticity ICC and PS mark stickers can be double-checked through the QR codes on each product according to Baluyot.“Ngayon kasi yung mga stickers na inilalabas ng Bureau of Philippine Standard may mga QR codes na siya na puwedeng iberipika, dun makikita natin kung ito ba ay nanggaling at kung tama ang laman nung QR codes na ‘to,” according to Baluyot.Valenzuela City BPLO administrative officer Frederick John Olleres said they received an endorsement letter from DTI-FTEB stating the specific violations of the said warehouse.“Naka-received po yung BPLO ng letter coming from DTI, meron po silang violation of DAO ( Department Administrative Order ) 2007 with PS mark but no PS license number indicated, violation of DAO 2 series of 2007, misleading PS mark or ICC stickers,” Olleres said.“Nakita po natin na most of the items are imported so hinahanap po natin kung meron silang importers permit. Ang claim po kasi is hindi daw sila nag-i-import, so hinihingan namin sila kung talagang locally purchased talaga,” Olleres added.Olleres clarified that the said warehouse has a business permit from the LGU but lacks other additional requirements.“Ease of doing business kasi sa Valenzuela, which is to follow po yung requirements then nagka-conduct po kami ng inspection,” Olleres explained.The warehouse was given due process to comply with all the requirements, according to Olleres.  I-Benson Trading warehouse Human Resource Department officer Bienna de Jesus said, that as far as their operations are concerned, they already complied with all the needed documents.When asked if it was selling imported products, initially De Jesus said, all their products are locally manufactured. But she later admitted that they also have imported products.“Locally the rest of the product…(hindi galing from China?) not all, pero hindi po kami ang importer. ( Saan galing kung hindi kayo ang importer?) Locally brand,” de Jesus told ABS-CBN News.De Jesus assured their affected employees would be given the assistance they need.
