Senior citizens who have no pension from private or government institutions, regular income, or family support are eligible to enroll in the DSWD&#x27;s social pension program.<em> Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA - The government has earmarked P49.8 billion for to give a P1,000 monthly pension for indigent senior citizens, the Department of Budget and Management said on Wednesday. </p><p>The funding for the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) has been included in the National Expenditure Program (NEP) and is expected to benefit over 4 million indigent senior citizens.</p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. said the amount is meant to help seniors with their living and medical expenses.</p><p>Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the increased funding follows the enactment of Republic Act No. 11916, which doubled the monthly pension for indigent seniors from P500 to P1,000.</p><p>Aside from the social pension program, the government has set aside over P3 billion to implement the Expanded Centenarians Act. This includes a P100,000 cash gift for centenarians and an additional P10,000 benefit for Filipinos aged 80, 85, 90, and 95. The expansion, enacted as Republic Act No. 11982 in February 2024, broadens the scope of benefits originally limited to centenarians.</p><p>Earlier this year, the House of Representatives approved a bill seeking to expand the number covered by the P1,000 monthly stipend to all Filipinos at least 60 years old.</p><p>If implemented, the measure will increase the number of beneficiaries from the current more than four million indigent senior citizens to an estimated 10.5 million senior citizens, according to the United Senior Citizens Party List.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EQr3uhdc884?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
