MANILA — The Department of Budget and Management on Tuesday said it approved the release of additional P5 billion to pay overdue grants of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.

The amount is meant to fully cover 4Ps grants in arrears for the fiscal year 2023, which resulted in the deactivation or suspension of 4Ps beneficiaries to around 703,888 households, the DBM said in a statement.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said that the agency would streamline budget processes "so that our citizens benefit from faster and more efficient delivery of essential services" such as the 4Ps.

The approved funds were sourced from the Fiscal Year 2023 Continuing Appropriations or Republic Act No. 11936.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in his third State of the Nation Address, said that over 420,000 families had graduated from the program or had been assessed as self-sufficient since his previous SONA.

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program offers conditional cash transfers to poor households to improve health, nutrition, and education outcomes.
