MANILA - JG Summit Holdings on Thursday said it was investigating "reports of a possible cybersecurity attack" and implemented enhanced security measures to ensure data protection.

"Our business units continue to have normal operations," the company said.

The statement was issued following reports that the company was targeted in a ransomware attack.

"We are working closely with our cybersecurity experts and partners to proactively investigate and assess the situation," JG Summit said.

"We take this matter very seriously. We recognize that many organizations have faced similar challenges in the current cybersecurity landscape. And, therefore, protecting our data and maintaining the trust of our stakeholders remain our top priority," it added.

The company said it would provide relevant updates as needed.

The conglomerate, which is one of the largest in the country, has interests ranging from property, retail, transportation, manufacturing, food and beverages, and many other sectors.

Last year, the Philippine Health Insurance System (PhilHealth) fell victim to a ransomware attack.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) last July had to temporarily take down its online systems to protect OFW data from a ransomware attack.
