<p>MANILA (UPDATE) -- Meralco power rates are climbing by P0.15 per kilowatt-hour in September. </p><p>This means the overall rate for a typical household will now be P11.7882/kWh, from last month’s P11.6339/kWh.</p><p>Meralco said this is because of a spike in the transmission charge due to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines&#x27; (NGCP) ancillary service. </p><p>This means electricity bills may jump by the following amounts: </p><div style="line-height:1"><strong>Consumption    Increase</strong></div><p style="line-height:1">200 kwh            P31</p><p style="line-height:1">300 kwh            P46</p><p style="line-height:1">400 kwh            P62</p><p style="line-height:1">500 kwh            P77</p><div style="line-height:1"> </div><p>In a statement, the power distributor said transmission charges for residential customers went up by P0.2913 because ancillary service charges rose after commercial operations of the reserve market resumed on August 5. </p><p>Meralco said this more than offset the fall in the generation charge, which went down by P0.1547/kWh. </p><p>Meralco rates rose in July by P2.15/kwh due to a higher generation charge.
