MANILA — (UPDATED) Filing a certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator a third time on Wednesday after being disqualified twice, Beth Lopez, whose personal miracles have convinced her she is "the chosen one of God," warned of a curse if she is prevented anew from running in 2025.

Claiming she was previously disqualified due to being "poor" and her inability to mount a campaign, Lopez addressed the Commission on Elections about barring her bid for a Senate seat.

Lopez pointed out that she "hates" politics, but it was God, she said, that put her on this path.

DISQUALIFYING A CANDIDATE

On Wednesday afternoon, Comelec spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco explained the grounds to declare one candidate as nuisance have lessened following decisions of the Supreme Court (SC) on the matter.

The SC, he explained, has ruled that lack of funds to mount a nationwide campaign, popularity or lack of a political party cannot be considered as grounds to declare one as nuisance candidate.

— with a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
