It&#x27;s a record of the greatest performances of some of our actors.&quot; </p><p>These were the words of Leo Katigbak, the head of the ABS-CBN Film Archive and Restoration, after he talked about the importance of restoring and re-introducing classic films in an interview on dzMM&#x27;s &quot;Teka Muna&quot; on Saturday. </p><p>Katigbak explained that films such as 1982&#x27;s &quot;Ora, Plata, Mata&quot; and 1983&#x27;s &quot;Karnal&quot; are &quot;required&quot; viewing for actors, as well for a new generation of Filipinos, who grew up in a film industry dictated by profit. </p><p>&quot;Lagi sa akin sinasabi ni John Lloyd [Cruz], kung artista ka at bilib ka sa craft mo, hindi puwedeng hindi mo papanoorin ang pelikulang tulad ng &#x27;Karnal.&#x27; Kasi iyon talaga ang mga magagaling na artista, magagaling na mga direktor,&quot; he said. </p><figure class="op-social"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/piAwKtz7gDw?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0" width="510"></iframe></figure><p>Katigbak also gave his thoughts on the current state of the local film industry, citing films such as &quot;That Thing Called Tadhana&quot; and &quot;Heneral Luna&quot; as an example of growing interest from Filipino moviegoers for films different from the usual mainstream offerings. </p><p>&quot;That Thing Called Tadhana,&quot; directed by Antoinette Jadaone, finished its box office run under Star Cinema with P134 million, while &quot;Heneral Luna&quot; scored a massive P253 million. </p><p>&quot;Nakakatuwa na nakikita mo ngayon na nagkakaroon na rin ng appreciation ang mga tao,&quot; he admitted. &quot;Ang gusto ko lang sana mangyari --sa atin kasi pag box office hit ka, mga two or three weeks ka sa sinehan. Pag hindi ka ganoon ka lakas, isang linggo pa lang pinu-pull out ka na.&quot; </p><p>&quot;Pero &#x27;yung mga sineng ito, kailangan ng mga tao ng time to discover kaya I was always hoping cinema owners would dedicate a cinema for those films na may art,&quot; he added. </p><figure class="op-social"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LbMQq3lmN28?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0" width="510"></iframe></figure><p>According to Katigbak, the ABS-CBN Film Archive and Restoration has restored more than 120 titles, including the aforementioned classics such as &quot;Karnal,&quot; &quot;Oro, Plata Mata,&quot; and &quot;Himala.&quot; </p><p>Around 19 titles are available on iTunes, said Katigbak. </p>
